Coffee and diet problems. Topic

Hi

I drink coffee a lot. I use half a cup of coffee to half a cup of half and half coffee cream. It’s just killing my diet. How can I drink coffee without it killing my diet. I use half to over half my calories a day just drinking coffee.

Hi Cooochabee- Sounds like you are trying to figure out if you should say goodbye to coffee as the calories from half and half are offsetting your negative energy balance.
I know plenty of people who have slowly cut back on caffeine (don't give it up cold turkey as the headaches can be rough) and feel better as a result. You could start drinking half decaf and half regular and perhaps trying whole milk instead of half and half? This will cut back on caffeine and cut back on calories.
Next it might be time for a heart to heart with yourself. Does drinking coffee or living a healthy/wt controlled lifestyle align better with your values? This is a big question and there is no wrong answer.

Thank you. I will try to cut down slowly but I know that’s going to be a challenge.

Fat free half and half tastes the same as regular, maybe switch them out and try like 1/4 cup cream and 3/4 cup coffee?

Great idea LauraSP! I like to drink black coffee and buy quality tasty coffee I enjoy so I savor the taste of the coffee itself. If I occasionally use cream in it, it tastes funny, almost filmy to me and I miss the flavor of the coffee. Just an idea. Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Hello Coooochabee- How's it going cutting back on the coffee?
Best, Joanna

In the app on the dashboard it's possible to add a Caffeine tracker. Simply using the tracker could make more aware, do I really need so much caffeine/coffee?

By tapping the caffeine tracker, it's possible to set a target. Having mine set to 56 gr or about 2 cups of coffee as feeling 3 is to much for me, twice the max.

Check out the total caffeine drinking from coffee a day and set as target. Over time, each week, try lowering the target gradually for the day by one cup less, or more when comfortable to lower a bit more!

Thanks for the tips on tracking caffeine. I think people will really appreciate this. Best, Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
