Is this a bad place to start if you are trying to rid of an eating disorder such as anorexia or if is a place where I can safely come to others when I need support? Are they’re are people out there who would support me!?

I think it depends on the person, but I do think this is a healthier way too see what your intake is with foods you eat so you can see just how much you’re eating in calories and carbs. It also offers plenty of recipes to keep you on track. It tells you how much you can eat and still be on a safe track for weight loss or management. I hope if this isn’t the right app for you that you can find something that helps, I’ve struggled with eating disorders when I was younger and I still struggle to not fall back to it. I wish you the best!

Hi 2manyMs, if you are trying to recover from an eating disorder, then I strongly urge you not to use MyNetDiary or any other calories tracker right now. Instead, work with a trusted behavioral health/mental health provider who specializes in eating disorders. Tracking calories could be a trigger for you and simply make things harder for your recovery.

Also, MyNetDiary's Terms of Use (you might have noticed the pop up text when you first tried to use MyNetDiary) includes this statement: "If you currently have or have had anorexia nervosa, bulimia, or other related eating disorders, you are not permitted to use this Site and the Mobile Apps." For more information about Terms of Use, see this link: https://www.mynetdiary.com/terms.html

This is for your safety - it is not meant to be punitive or exclusionary.

Please read more about eating disorders in this blog post: https://www.mynetdiary.com/eating-disorders-food-tracking.html

Please let us know if you have questions. It can be difficult to recover from an eating disorder on your own.

Best,
Kathy (MyNetDiary dietitian covering for Joanna)
