How long should I exercise? Topic

Ok I’m back hitting the gym and loving it, I’m up to 20/30 min power walking on treadmill, around 15 mins of weights and 20/30 min swimming. (Then 15 mins in hot tub as a treat after!) I try to go 5 days a week roughly work allowing.

Is that a fairly good routine or could doing something different benefit me?

Also my gym has a sauna and steam room that I don’t use - should I be using them, is there any benefit to me recovery wise in using them?

Hi MeMe-
Strong work on your commitment to regular planned exercise! You are an inspiration!

I am guessing your goal is weight loss and you are wondering what the best workout plan would be to accomplish this goal?
One hour per day is suggested (which you are doing) + strength training several days a week. This is the recommendation for weight maintenance, though many find it helpful to build the habit during the weight loss phase. Since you are already doing this you are in line with these guidelines.
For optimum overall health, you'll want to include some flexibility work or stretching. This will help to lengthen your muscles.
We encourage members to select "sedentary" for their activity level and not enable the feature "add exercise to calorie budget." This will help promote faster weight loss.

Thank you for the advice - I will try to incorporate some stretching too if it will help. Yes I want to loose weight but more generally I want to be fitter and be able to run around like I used to lol

Hi MeMe- You are very welcome! Please let us know how your training is going. Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Should I factor my burned fitness numbers against the daily food budget and adjust amount of caloric intake? I've been using my iOS health app and it seems to be messing up my weekly weight loss. Not sure what to do. I didn't want to eat under

Hi there U4925404- Strong work on tracking!
I am not able to see your records so I am not sure to what degree the burned fitness numbers are messing up your weekly loss. MyNetDiary takes the guesswork out of budgeting. So to answer your question, no you don't need to do any additional math to come up with a daily calorie budget.
If your goal is weight loss we suggest turning off the feature "add exercise to calorie budget" housed under settings and selecting sedentary as your activity factor. This way you will be maximizing your success with weight loss.
We have a fantastic support team who can provide additional suggestions if needed. Simply reach out to them at support@mynetdiary.com and provide them your username and the platform you use (iOS). We are happy to help! Best, Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
