How often do you weigh? Topic

For those trying to loose weight, just curious about how often you weigh in? Once a week? Twice a week? Everyday? Thanks!

I’ve weighed twice since 1/1. I think I’m going to go with once a week though until I start seeing some results. I’ve seen no results yet but I’ve not gained either. I’m sticking to it though. Have you seen results ?

I’m going to weigh myself in once a week. I haven’t seen any results either but I’m not giving up. I’m going to stick to this diet.

Greetings! It can be helpful to check your progress on the scale at least once a week. Some folks like to check more often. I'd suggest daily weighing only if you find this supportive. If daily weight checks wreck havoc with your mindset then weigh less frequently. Finding what works for you and your mental and physical health is most important! I weigh daily - for the last 6 years. Lost my weight the first year and have maintained since then. My weight fluctuates over dumb little things like salt, carbs, muscle inflammation, hormones. Weighing daily helps me to not panic when my weight goes up suddenly (I am up 1 1/2lbs today, but yesterday was a brutal leg day so I am retaining water because of muscle inflammation- I am not stressed because I know why my weight is up). It was important for me to look at the weight chart once a month so I could see the downward trend.

Thanks for sharing your strategy Drinkmorewater! It is really important for a person to pay attention to how weighing impacts their success. Everyone is different, some, like you, find daily weighing works and it sounds like looking at the monthly trends is especially helpful to you so you can see the big picture. Others find that weighing once a week is best so they don't react to the daily normal weight fluctuations that are to be expected. Bottom line: Figure out what works best for you as an individual! I weigh daily, but I do think its personal. Read studies suggesting daily is beneficial as long as you don't have hangups about the fluctuations. It wont stay stable, it will be a sawtooth graph, but if you are progressing the trend-line should show a constant downward when in weight loss mode. The problem with once a week, if if on any week you have a weight flux up by say 1.5 lbs and you are planning on losing .8lbs a week, then you get the big demoralizing blow and start panicking. IMO the goal is not think of the scale as an enemy, it just collects data, and weighing everyday draws the dread out of it. I find using a measuring tape also helps a lot but that is time consuming and once a week is sufficient. Small scale shifts but inches gone are huge boosts to me. The scale is one indicator, my blood pressure, body measurements, and how I feel is the best indicator. I fell off the wagon and gained a lot back from my first journey and I can lay b;lame partially on losing the habit of getting on the scale. Had I kept weighing I would have seen the reversal much clearer when it happened.

I weigh in once a week , I have thought about weighing everyday , just to see how my weight is going from sodium so i see if I’m drinking enough water to help get rid of the fluid retained from sodium , if that makes sense lol

Thanks everyone! I think I’ll start with once a week and see how that goes for me!

U1184243879, Sounds like a good plan. Keep up posted on your progress!

Spacecoastloser, I love your comment about the scale not being the enemy. It is just collecting data. It's great to have other measures of success, whether it is inches, energy level, better sleep, etc.
