How to help with sodium intake Topic

im always over by 1000. Should I Drink more water to help with the face swells? I’m just trying to find to counteract the sodium. It only happens on the day I eat baked plain chicken as my meat of the day.

Hi there U1193041719-
MyNetDiary uses a default goal of 2300 mg of sodium, consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. If you have a different sodium goal recommended by your healthcare provider, customize your goal to that value. Also, the app allows you to select either sodium or salt for tracking purposes. You can select which fits your needs under "App Settings." These articles offer tips on flavoring foods without using a lot of salt: https://www.mynetdiary.com/sodium-yes-it-s-a-big-deal.html

If you continue to have facial swelling even on a lower sodium plan, touch base with your doctor for further investigation. Hope this helps! Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Thank you Joanna😌😌 My Net Diary had 1500 for people over 65, I really worked hard to bring my numbers down. My report from my Dr. noted my sodium and choline were very low (salt). I hope it's safe but I raised it to 1600.

Hi Suzib123, I am following up on your question about sodium intake. Can you clarify about this report you received from the doctor? Was this a blood report by chance that showed your sodium and choline were very low? Did you by chance mean chloride instead of choline? Salt is sodium chloride. If it is a blood test result, a low sodium level is not a reliable indicator of how much dietary sodium you should ingest long-term. Has your doctor advised you to limit your sodium to lower levels for a health condition (ex: high blood pressure, kidney disease, congestive heart failure, fluid retention). If you don't have a medical condition, most adults do well limiting their sodium to less than 2000 mg per day. As Joanna mentioned, if you continue to have facial swelling, touch base with your doctor for further investigation and assess the need for a change in your health plan. Look forward to your response. Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
