ive lost over 30lbs and i still feel hideous Topic

I’m 18, but I know what you mean. I’ve gained weight steadily for a few years and am just now starting to lose. If it’s your face that you think looks bigger, that might just be bloating, which is common if you eat too much salt. I’ve even found my face looks slimmer now that I’ve cut down on sugary drinks. As for body, I can’t see your before and after photos, but your progress does not lie. You have lost weight, whether you see it or not, and other people are noticing too! You are doing amazing, especially for someone young! Keep up the good work, try to stay healthy and you will get there!

Hi Encapsulated- I am sorry to hear you are struggling.
A lot of people are struggling right now and you are not alone.
It sounds like you are very hard on yourself and the school photos really brought this to light. I am one of the Dietitians for the app and am asking you to stop using the app for 2 reasons. First I think it is causing you to feel worse about yourself and your self image is suffering. Secondly- the app is only for individuals who are 18 yo or those younger than 18 with their parent's consent and monitoring. Do you parents know how much you are struggling? Do they know you are using MyNetDiary?

Please see our terms and conditions about age and disordered eating.

I ask you to stop eating the app now and get the help you need.
Please make an appt with your doctor and discuss this with them and your desire to get healthy, recent weight loss and disappointment in your self image.
Best, Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Hi U1188650951- Thank you for your positive words of encouragement.
It sounds like you have worked hard to get to a place of health and balance.
As a reminder, the app is only for individuals who are 18 years or older.
Here are our policies on age and disordered eating for review:https://www.mynetdiary.com/terms.html

I've lost about 28 lbs from my all-time high. I should be singing for joy especially since today I hit my all-time low (which is still high). My problem is that once I see I'm doing really well I start eating again. The other aspect is that I look in the mirror and see no change and the clothes I wear don't seem to be getting any looser. I just want to *look* a little better and feel like my clothes are getting a *little* bit looser...and stop self-sabotaging my weight loss.

Hi OceanPinesGuy, First of all, congrats for losing 28 lbs! That is a big accomplishment! Please give yourself credit for it. I am sorry to hear you are struggling. You mention that once you see that you are doing really well you start eating again. Do you think it might help to speak with a behavioral counselor to help you work through reasons you are trying to sabotage your efforts?

I have a few thoughts.

Would taking your body measurements to see progress be helpful? There is a "measurement" section in MyNetDiary where you can track your neck, waist, and hip size. You can also track your blood pressure and pulse rate there to see positive trends. Tracking your progress by looking at many different milestones than just weight can be helpful. Looking at progress with exercise stamina, energy levels, less back pain, etc. keeps many people moving in a healthier direction.

Also, you could ask a friend or family member if they notice your weight loss? Sometimes we cannot see our own progress like others can. I am sure your 28 lb loss must be noticeable!

I am glad you are reaching out on forum and hope you find the positive encouragement can help you with a positive outlook on getting healthier. Please let us know how you are doing. Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

OPG - WELL DONE! Unless you gained all 28lbs back you’re in a better place than when you started. Be excited about that. Healthy eating habits should become a part of our “new” lifestyle, not just to get us to a certain number. Once we reach the smaller goals we set we can celebrate them and get right back on track to reach the next goal and/or maintain what we’ve work so hard to attain.
As it’s been said:
Don’t just rely on the number on the scale but set yourself up with various indicators so that when you don’t feel one aspect is going well you can examine multiple aspects to properly evaluate your progress.
Transitioning from eating anything at will to a balanced meal plan is a huge challenge. You have shown yourself that you are capable of losing weight so don’t let your emotions stop you from reaching your ultimate goal!!!

OceanPinesGuy, WELL DONE, Yahoo. 28lbs gone what an achievement. You should be jumping for joy from the roof tops. Keep focused on the positives and give yourself permission to make a slip up here and there as and when "we" invariably do, but then get back on the horse and motivated to our next mini 2lb to 5lb goal, which is how I've started doing it now after Joanna and Brenda's advice. I still have 27lbs to get out of overweight and into Normal weight category for my height etc, but I'm doing it a 1lb to 2lb per week with an odd slip up. I'm darned though if I'm going to let that "odd" slip up sabotage all the hard work done the past 2 months nearly.

Go OceanPinesGuy, YOU CAN and YOU WILL do it!
