Loose skin Topic

Hey y’all I have lost 70 lbs and am closing in on my goal 20 to go! The only thing is I have a lot of loose skin especially on my stomach and arms. Wondering if anyone else is dealing with this it just kinda sucks because it’s not what I thought I’d look like after loosing weight. Has anyone considered getting it removed?

Hi Amme99, First off, congratulations on your excellent weight loss! Yes, loose skin is very common after a significant weight loss. It may take a while for the skin to contract slowly. Experts suggest giving it one year to see how it contracts. Then, if you still are not happy with the loose skin, talk to your doctor about medical options, like surgery to remove it.

In the meantime, strength training can help build muscle and make the skin look tighter. Also, a healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, is important for the skin.

Way to go on your outstanding weight loss! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Yes I’ve lost 6 and 1/2 stone in the last 10 months and now have some loose skin on my thighs. I’m going to attempt strength training to combat this. I’m hoping after a few months I’ll have built up muscle in my legs to tighten it.

Congratulations Amme99! That is so much weight to lose! My personal experience follows Brenda’s advice 100%. I lost 60 lbs (not as much as you but still enough to have loose skin in areas). My skin has definitely contracted back over time and looks significantly better now. Also, along with what Brenda said...my neighbor is a plastic surgeon and encouraged me to keep a stable weight for a year before I thought about any type of surgery- that outcomes are much better. I also do a lot of weight training which seems to give everything better shape.
Over time, I have decided not to do any type of surgery. My skin has bounced back to the point where it’s what you would expect for my age and mother of three kids. I have also turned into kind of a fitness nut and don’t want the down time that surgery recovery would require.
If you do decide to get skin removed please be picky about who does the surgery- you have worked hard to lose weight and should expect your surgeon to have you looking perfect (sadly there are a lot of hack jobs in skin removal).
So excited for you! Congratulations again!

BTW- Not sure if you have thought about your maintenance plan....Maintaining is definitely easier than losing weight but it has been essential for me to continue tracking with MND. 7+ years

Thanks for everyone’s advice :) drinkmore congrats on your weight loss and maintaining it!!! Also turned into fitness junkie especially cardio:) For maintaining I was thinking tracking and I find if I don’t buy bad foods I don’t eat them as well as planning meals. I do get what you mean about keeping weight steady for year it is hard to believe that I’m close to my goal and that I won’t have to be in a calorie deficit anymore that could be a adjustment

Maintaining IS pretty awesome. Pretty much I eat the same as I would if I was losing but treat myself to one slice of peanut butter toast with breakfast and an extra snack at night. Weird but the PB toast is my absolute favorite thing!

I lost 100 lbs and I did opt for skin removal on my arms. Best thing I did for myself. I can wear spanks and conceal the tummy skin but the arms could not be hidden. It's a personal decision. Congratulations on your loss❣️

Awesome!!
