New Type -2 Diabetic here! Topic

I am new to My Net Diary, I was reading about how great it is so with my new diagnosis’s here I am. I am addicted to sugar guess that is one reason I am where I am. Lol!

My glucose level was 422 on Tuesday A1C is 11.3% and I had NO clue it was elevated. I am a work in progress. I started taking Metformin on Friday and I have been cutting back on crabs and sugars.

Sugar is not the only problem, ALL carbs convert to sugar. Best to choose low GI carbs and watch the portions. You may benefit from seeing a credentialled diabetes educator.

Where can I find a good GI list? I would like to make sure I know which foods are good and which ones I should limit

Hello Poolside#is#best-

Welcome to MyNetDiary! Glad you found us. Good for you for making your health a priority!

Tracking is a great way to understand how many grams of carbohydrate you are consuming each meal and snack. Carbohydrates have the biggest impact on glucose levels.

The glycemic index (gi) is a ranking of how different foods impact glucose levels. This article explains more about the glycemic index (gi) with a link to a comprehensive website detailing everything gi: https://www.mynetdiary.com/low-glycemic-diet-plan-strategies.html

A diagnosis of diabetes is a big deal! Diabetes is very complex and the lifestyle recommendations are quite nuanced. I agree with user 463- Meeting with a Certified Diabetes Educator would be awesome! Your doctor can help you find one in your area. In the meantime, this article provides self management resources: https://www.mynetdiary.com/diabetes-self-management-resources.html

Finally, if you are overweight- losing just 10% of your body weight and comitting to regular exercise can help bring your glucose into target range along with taking your Metformin every day.

Please keep us updated on your progress! Best, Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian and Diabetes Educator).

Thanks for all the good advice. I will look into the GI lists.
