On the cusp of 40lbs loss without an exercise regimen. Topic

Loosen Up: Thanks for sharing. What your doing will change the rest of your life. Congratulations

Loosen Up and others, as a newbie here that also detests any planned exercise it is very encouraging. THANK YOU for sharing! I just started 8 days ago walking 30 mins and now up to 40 mins per day - is that enough for any health benefits? I'm already finding it a bit of a drudge walking the same old same old, albeit we live in a beautiful area. Hubby and I love, when no COVID restrictions RVing to different locations and we walk a ton then several weeks a year. I know this helps keep my Blood Sugars in check, but the past year of lockdowns, stay at home orders and closed borders, we haven't been able to do the latter. Consequently, we have been eating up a couch potato storm of home cooking and baking to the extreme coupled with the boredom of eating even more. I know that excuses aren't worth diddly squat but it sure helped contribute to my weight gain and blood sugars going into double digits, as well for the first time in my life, highly elevated Blood Pressure. Looking forward to reading more from this community and thanks for having this unfit Canuck on board.

Hi Helen, It sure sounds like you know what works and doesn't work for you! Keep on walking. Some fitness experts call it the best exercise out there! I just went for a walk and am loving waving to the neighbors after being so isolated. I like to vary where I walk so I don't get bored. In another discussion thread, I sent you some walking video links to try when the weather is not agreeable. Hope you check them out. Keep on walking! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Um, I think you missed the point of my post. It was all about starting with one thing and not getting overwhelmed by perfection. Of course, exercise is an important factor when considering overall health, nobody is denying that fact. Relax.

I would love to share my story, but I'd like to wait until I'm at goal. This has been a journey of learning, trials, and tribulations. It has required me to be flexible and adaptive through challenges, mindset, and factors out of my control have all come into play.

I totally get what you’re saying Loosen up! This is the first time I’ve decided to work with my short comings....every other year I would hit the exercise hard and increase my appetite only to burn out but keep eating more lol. This time I’m being honest with myself and set a goal of 3 miles or 30 minutes a day

Exactly! I have done so many diets and exercise routines over the years. I would always start strong and keep it up for a month or two and then slowly sink back into my old habits. Not this time though. This is the first time I've ever had any real success at weight loss and it was because I chose to focus on my biggest issue (eating right) first. Now, I'm ready to add trips to the gym because I want to--not because I have to.

Loosen_up, I love what you said about going to the gym because you want to. It sounds like you have a great approach that will set you up for lasting success. Looking forward to your updates!

Best,

That’s very reassuring to read - we’re only mere mortals after all

Sounds like you are personalizing your plan this time. Way to go! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
