Only if you dont like your kidneys, bones and want to develop insulin resistance.

I have been eating low carb high fat diet since 2015 and am healthier in all aspects! Blood glucose down (was pre diabetic), painful knees gone, skin tags disappearing and generally feel much healthier. I've been on a bit of a plateau for the past 2 years (have only lost 1/3 of what I need to lose) but the important thing is that I have not put on! And I find it easy to go back on to that lifestyle when I've gone off the track! With lockdown now, it's even better as I have only bought food that I can have so no temptations ?? and I do all my own cooking.

Hi LVM- Great news that you have found a lifestyle that works for you! Thanks for sharing.
What types of foods have you been eating lately for breakfast and dinner? I am sure there are others out there looking for new ideas of what to prepare, especially since we are all doing more cooking at home.

How much different is say South Beach from Keto? I cut most simple carbs from my diet. Eat lots of Whole Foods, stay away from anything that I has been process a lot, eat lots of beans and nuts. Try to include 2-4 oz. of meat, poultry, or fish with most meals. Probably drink too much coffee. I keep track of every calorie and usually stay under 1500. Walk an hour every day and lately lots of yard work. Have been losing right ar 1.5 lbs a week.

Hello Jloughlin- To answer your question the South Beach diet is pretty different from the Keto diet. Both diets can be used for weight loss.
The South Beach diet encourages healthier carbohydrate choices, lean proteins, healthy fats and high dietary fiber. As far as macros are concerned the South Beach diet is lower in carbs than the typical American diet though certainly not as low as Keto. There are several phases to South Beach, just like many diets. The first phase is more restrictive. However in the final maintenance phase of the South Beach Diet, you can eat upwards of 28% of your calories from carbs whereas with Keto you can eat up to 5% of your calories from carbohydrates. With the keto plan, the goal is to alter your body's metabolism and shift it into a state of ketosis where you are burning fat for fuel and hopefully burning the fat stored on your body and not just the fat that you are ingesting, thus resulting in weight loss. This is accomplished by eating a lot of fat and very little carbohydrate. The big similarity with the 2 eating plans is that you don't need to count calories with either plan. As with any diet there are pros and cons to consider. We encourage checking with your doctor or Registered Dietitian before starting any restrictive diet plan.
