UPC Food Codes Topic

Curious. Why does the scanner display different brands when using the code lookup? I know some factories make foods and label according to brand or distribution. Is that the reason? Or is it just finding a comparable item entered in the system.

Hi Ap4055- I got in touch with support and this is what they shared:
If the MyNetDiary scanner finds the item in the database and this item has the wrong food name, the user has to tap the Cancel button and search by typing the food name. If this item appears in the suggestion list, the user has to pick this item from the suggestions and log this item to the meal.
The next time the user scans the same UPC, MyNetDiary will find the item the user just logged to the meal. In case the right food name does not pop up in the suggestion list, the user has to create the new custom food. Optionally, submit the photo food request; so we'll add the nutrients for the user in 24.
In addition, sometimes, the vendors print the same barcode for slightly different items; or, the barcode can be assigned/reassigned to the wrong item, or, it can be an error of the scanner during lookup from our database.
Let us know if these tips help out. Best, Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
