Water weight Topic

Hi!

Ok so does anyone here have a problem with water weight? I have been logging the same weight at 137lbs for a whole month now even though this app says that I sticking to a plan which is losing me 1 to 1.5lbs a week! I stick to a strict diet and cardio and other forms of exercise everyday 5 days a week and on Saturdays I do another cardio and take Sunday off. I sometimes reach a small calories surplus on Saturdays and I have a few drinks. I then notice that throughout the week I carry an extra 3 to 4lbs but come to Friday (I dont touch alcohol in the week) i starts dropping back down to 9st 11 1/4. Surely by now I should be 9st 10 or 9?

Does anyone else have this issue and if so, what is the best way to rid of any slight water retention to give a more close to accurate body weight?

Lift heavy weights

I’d say reduce salt intake? that can contribute to water retention :)

How does lifting heavy weights kill it off?
I tend to notice it is worse if over the weekend the treat day consists of a kebab. They are high In sodium. I have skipped them for two weeks and weight is a little more consistent the last couple of days after the weekends. The alcoholic beverages doesn’t help but kinda tough to get outta that when everyone in my partners household loves a good few drinks on a Saturday night. I feel like an outcast if I don’t. Saturday gone I really wasn’t in the mood and didn’t drink as much as I usually have done there but this time was very sick! I feel like my alcohol intolerance has gone up lately too. Not sure if that has anything to do with weight loss….. The skinnier you are, the less body mass there is for alcohol to swim around lol!

Hi DonnaR-
Thanks for reaching out! You are likely to get a wider response if you post in the "weight loss" or "newbies" section of the forum as opposed to "technical support."

From what you shared it sounds like you are frustrated the scale is not reflecting your hard work! I understand this can be perplexing and cause doubt in the process. Here are my thoughts~

In addition to cutting back on alcohol and sodium (both can contribute to fluid retention) check out these tips:

Donna R.,
I used to suffer big time with water retention. So much so I couldn’t get a shoe on my right foot. I even ended up with water blisters on my leg. On my shin and calf.
Last June I got really sick and became septic ( infection in my blood stream). The infection got into my heart sac causing a heart attack. Amazingly enough I do not have heart disease despite my weight and high cholesterol. While in the CCU my cardiologist asked about my blisters and swelling. He suggested I drink less water. I have always drank a lot of water. Despite being told by doctors, nutritionists, etc to drink a minimum of ounces equal to the number of pounds I wanted to lose. 150 ounces seemed outrageous and it was. Anyway, I did start drinking less water. I woke up about a week into it with no swelling. To this day I have had no issue with it since.
As for the alcohol, you do not need to drink just because everyone else is. Do you log your drinks? If not, that could be the issue. Instead of cocktails try sparkling water with lemon. I felt the same way you did. I felt like I was on the outside. I was, I put myself there. I haven’t had a drink in 33 years and no longer feel uncomfortable.
I have no idea if any of this helps. I do want you to know you are not alone. Keep up with the hard work you have been putting on. I wish you well.
