60 and need to lose! Topic

Hello all: I don't see many posts here -- sure hope there are more later. Anyway, I'm almost 61 and trying to lose, hopefully for the last time. I've lose over the years but have always gained it back again, mostly due to a thyroid problem and back back (take meds). However this last time I have to admit I ate my way to it. Sigh. I'm hoping to really buckle down and keep track of what I eat and lose for good.

Good For you. Let's do this once and for all!!!

Thanks! The first day is always the hardest. According to how much I exercised I'm still within target range, but my metabolism is really slow, so I'm going to have to be more careful tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi folks -- I walk 2 miles daily but the pounds are creeping up. Vanity's not the issue (well, not entirely); health and vitality are. Want to be able to bend down, lift big bags of dog food, move furniture, do strenuous gardening and stay fit for the next 30 years - and know that carrying 25 extra pounds will hamper all those things. Looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

Hi,Mimijo. For me, vanity is the issue. Although I want to be healthy, I don't think I'll ever be able to do strenuous work again, but I might be able to get a Man.! :-) Exercise doesn't seem to be helping me lose weight either. I just ordered a faux suede and fur vest that's going to be a little too small for me. It's not supposed to come until January. Good Inspiration.

Hi Mimi. Right now for me it's a health issue -- I'm trying to avoid diabetes, so I really need to watch it. And this extra weight doesn't help my back any. I don't want to be laid up because of it.

I'm 65 and started again. I hope there are some of you still blogging and losing would love to chat.

Hi Jean!
I am just joining today. I have thyroid issues too, and like you, I am looking at this year as THE year I do this, finally, and do it right. I'm not going to be in a hurry. I plan to take the whole year, but break it down into *bite-sized* (no pun intended!) pieces, by the month, so I keep on course. I felt so heavy and bloated at Christmas with my family, due to being at least 50 lbs overweight, but also because during December, my whole focus was on doing/making/buying for everyone else. I ate all the things I'm not supposed to eat, fast food, white flour, even sneaking sugary things from time to time--PLUS not eating things that I ought to be eating...good sources of protein, fruits, veggies, and water. I even stopped taking some of my meds. I was too *busy*!!! Crazy, huh? As soon as Christmas was over, I crashed. I am a life-long dieter. I know my body very well. That's why I'm not doing this or even thinking of this in all the ways I have in the past. I know it's up to me, and small changes to make in my choices every single day. I'd like to find a few friends who identify with my issues, so we can help one another stay focused. Maybe you are one of those people. I'd love to hear from you!

I also have a thyroid issue, and "forgot" to take my meds over the holidays-too many other things going on! Anyway, I am back at it, and plan to stick to getting to a healthy weight again this year. Good luck! It's nice to have people to talk to who are in the same boat1

I'm new here but hopeful. I am hypothyroid and diabetic and am on a gluten, dairy free diet so I have my challenges, but I know this can work if I keep at it. I have lots of pounds to lose, but I think I will just aim for ten pounds a month for now. Sounds like we are all caregivers for our kids, hubby etc, so its good to read about all of you. I'm from Saskatchewan so veggies come from the store for now. Glad to be on here.
