I am 65 years old and in very good health, except for the usual 65 year old complaints but know I have to lose this weight. We are in NJ for 4 months and very cold and snowy so hard to walk. I am going to try this to count my calories but have no idea how to figure how many to use. I am active, but know if I do not lose this weight it will tax my body into my late 60's.. wow... good to get that off my chest... Richard

Hello. I need to lose about 30lbs and hope that by keeping an honest record of what I eat I will be able to fit into my clothes again. Can't afford to keep on buying new ones!

I'm 72 and losing the weight as we get older can be challenging as we don't burn as many calories. I was 255 on 2/1 and am 233 today, the fastest weight loss I have ever done. I switched to eating Mediterranean plan on here and use the recipes. Also bought a digital weight scale to weigh everything I eat. Found I was eating almost twice as much and never do seconds. Meatless Mondays and fish 3 times a week and a scoop of whey protein daily to help boost protein. Knowing how many calories to eat to actually lose weight I think varies by individual. For me its around 1,200 a day. My first goal is 225 and actually feel for first time I can do it. I exercise about 60min 4 or 5 days a week but think 80% of weight loss is what you eat. The exercise keeps our hearts healthy. Good luck and you can do it if I can. Been retired 8yrs and finally getting in shape!

TampaBaron keep up the great work! It is much harder to lose as we age. Ive been fighting weight all my life. I’ve lost and gained hundreds of pounds. I’m 60 and do have some health issues. I intend to keep on fighting the good fight. You are an inspiration!

I’m 67 and two years ago I joined a nutrition program. It was July 26, 2021 to be exact. I weighed 206.8 lbs, and I’m 5’-10”. Today my weight was 170.6. I use a scale made by ETEKCity purchased on Amazon. I weigh myself every day, first thing in the AM, undressed, so each day I see where I’m at. I am approaching day 600.
In my adult life I have weighed as much as 250-255. With the nutrition program I was under 180# within 6 months. I used to use another well known program but is switched to MyNetDiary because it tracks nutrients. When I signed for premium the 2nd year I had let my subscription lapse but they offered it for $29 and I am very pleased.
I walk for exercise, but broke my ankle Oct 23 last year. Today makes 20 weeks and the pain is almost gone. I can’t wait for spring to begin daily walks of 2-4 miles.
I don’t do any weightlifting or yoga or anything like that. But I have a litTle excess fat in my abdomen and chest area. I looked at my draft registration card from Oct 1974 and my weight was about 160. I’d sure like to get there again by this October. But if I get to 165 I would be ecstatic.
I know I need some type of exercise to tighten the skin and lose the subcutaneous fat in the areas mentioned above.
One other thing that has troubled me was in 2017 I developed acute nummular or atopic dermatitis that was nearly over 100% of my body. The only thing that brought relief was high doses of prednisone, which also brought weight gain. I have a good doc, who tried many immunosuppressants that were supposed to control the dermatitis. Eventually cyclosporine worked but the FDA only allows this for 1 year. I’m now on Dupixent and I am blessed to have good insurance. The dermatitis was controlled by Dupixent since mid 2020 or I would not have made such progress.
I feel good about life and want to keep good health as I age!

I would recommend going on the Mediterranean diet plan on here and stick to the recipes they provide, they are great. Buy a digital food scale from amazon and weigh everything you eat before you enter it into the diary. get used to eating only 4oz as your main course and have fish 3 times a week for dinner. I but the Salmon at the Giant when its on sale and cut into 4oz servings. put into freezer bag and that way you have it on hand. Other fish I eat is Cod and tuna. eat lots of veggies and fruit. Arugula, romaine and spinach are your best greens for salads and only use extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. stay away from any packaged foods and snacks and no sugar. drink at least 94oz of water a day. once you have the right foods to eat in your house for meals it is easy and you won't be hungry. it really 'a diet, its just a healthier way to eat. i enter everything i am going to eat for the day in the morning and stick to it. for me, my sweet spot for losing is 1200 calories a day. good Luck!

I'll be 62 in a couple of weeks and at 5'8" I'm about 55 lbs over my goal weight. I'm starting this weight loss journey (not my first go-round!) this time at right about 200. I try to eat low(er) carb - although I don't go crazy with it either. I've done extremely well at weight loss when I've tried to keep my net carbs about 15 per meal. Due to knee issues (both knees), I can't jog or ride a bicycle, so I just walk for exercise. But I do love walking!
I'm new on this platform, I've been on MFP for years and don't like all the changes there. I'd like to find a few friends who are serious about losing weight, so feel free to send me a friend request if this is you!
