Hi, I really like this program. I am finally losing pounds at a nice rate, however I have to eat very few calories. I guess it really is harder when older. I am now getting most all calories from vegetables and I am not hungry. Like many I have been on many diets in my lifetime, but this is by far the best. I do need to exercise more regularly. I do,like to walk and ride my bike.

Hi Group. I am a 72 year old guy who likes to bike. At 5-9 and 190lbs i am way over weight but having trouble loosing weight. I exercise a lot which makes me hungry. Program says I should be consuming 1750 calories a day to loose 1.5 pounds a week. Seems like i am going to have to eat even less?

It took me a few weeks to get my weight lose going! I was so frustrated. I turned 70 on Thanksgiving Day and I think it takes longer to lose the older we are.
I really love vegetables and I think that has helped me the most. I don't know if you like spaghetti squash or not, but I find it filling and healthy. I just pierce it and microwave it for 15 minutes. I put a little maranera sauce on top and I feel like I'm eating spaghetti!
I have lost about 15 pounds so far.

Do you give yourself a sweet reward? Every evening I treat myself to a 100 calorie fudgsicle. It satisfies my sweets yearning and looking forward to having it each night helps me avoid eating much richer desserts throughout the day.

It worked! So will add a little more. I have been battling a weight problem since my second son was born. It's probably a good thing I keep at it, but am tired of the yo-yoing. Only need to lose 20#, but haven't made any headway. Now I think I'm serious. I love to walk early in the morning. Did 3 miles today and another 2 miles walking around Walmart etc. So have gotten my first 10,000 sep day! Three cheers.

Thank you for the idea of the spaghetti squash. I have not fixed that for a long time.

It took me a bit to get moving, too. I really didn't change my diet much - maybe a bit of portion control and skipping some of my worst foods.
What I really did was break a sedentary habit of 30-40 years and begin exercising. I started pushing right to the edge of my abilities. I'm 69 and seriously out of shape. The first few sessions left me gasping and muscles shaking for twenty minutes or so. I knew what they were recommending for my cardio-zone, and kept within it, but it seemed terrible to me.
It's now six weeks later. In the first week, I could barely make 15 minutes at 2mph on a flat treadmill. Six weeks later I am making 20-25 minutes at 2.5 mph on a 5% treadmill, and even doing 10% intervals with the occasional 15% incline for a minute or so.
I know it's been a few months since anyone has posted to the group, but it sure seems as though we have some support to give each other. Somebody give me a "Good job, Pete", OK?
Suddenly I am down almost 10#, and able to do a hard 1.2 mile walk (still at 2.5mph, even on the final hill before getting home) just to make a 10,000 step day. Just for a lark; just for a walk last night in the moonlight (I live out in the country; no streetlights). I met a skunk, but I respected its territory (crossed over to the other side of the road) and it respected mine.

Well, *I'm* still having fun with this new business of getting healthier. I have the equipment, the time, and the inclination. Plus, I have a bunch of new friends (who seem to be silent) who can encourage me when I get slack.

Hi, just joining. So hello to all currently online. Until I get my act together and buy a scale and get settled with my new doctor, my goal is simply to learn to log as much or as little as I am willing to and to the the detail I can manage. Meanwhile, I'm trying to manage changes in my insulin after what I have finally realized was no diabetic education. Since 1980 and NOW I'm using a tool to control it. Just a few months before 70, and I think I will need a lot of good wishes and more encouragement. I still have to set up my settings correctly for sharing. Please wish me well in Florida.
