Hi Lmartin28 - do you mean you have frequent hypoglcemic readings (blood glucose readings below 70 mg/dL) related to struggles with diabetes control & diabetes medication or that you tend to feel like you have low blood sugar but don't actually test your blood glucose values?

At any rate, breakfast foods are a challenge for many folks. Here are some ideas:

Trying to control total carb content but love your dry breakfast cereals: aim for a total of 30-45 grams of total carbs from all meal sources if you tend to go too high in blood glucose after a meal.

Portion control (measure) cereal: 3/4 - 1 cup of types that provide a max of up to 15-20 grams total carbs per serving. Of those, choose lower sugar types - less than 5 grams sugar per serving.

Examples:
Bran flakes (without raisins), flax flakes, Kellogg's High Protein, Kashi GoLean (not crunchy), or even plain Cheerios.

Non-dairy beverage with cereal: aim for no more than about 15 grams of total carbs per 1 cup serving. Avoid the flavored types unless "light" - e.g. these are lower in carbs:
Soy milk - unflavored or light vanilla
Almond milk - unflavored

Other ideas - high fiber cooked whole grains
Cooked steel-cut oats with nuts & frozen berries
Cooked buckwheat with same

Non-grain options
eggs, sauteed veggies, 1/2 cup potatoes
3-egg white omelet with 1/4 cup shred cheese
fish and veggies

Smoothies - nonfat greek yogurt, fresh fruit, veggies, whey protein powder (or even silken tofu)

There are also lots of other ideas in earlier posts. You can go on forum from web programand search "breakfast" and find lots of posts.

Hi, I'm 62 years young, I started a diet 8 days ago and I'm doing well except, I'm a bit constipated. I eat huge salad with some protein every day for lunch, steamed veggies for dinner with my chicken, hi fiber breakfast and still constipated. I drink between 7 to 9 glasses of water a day, I exercise and still. Not sure what's going on here. Usually my bowel movements are very regulate. I hope You can help. I hardly ever have this problem.
Thank u very much, Sara.

Hi Sarale41. Can you clarify a couple of things: 1. what is "high fiber breakfast"? 2. How long have you had this problem? 3. what steamed veggies are you eating, and what's in the huge salad?
Fiber is not just one thing, and people react differently to different types of fiber, so a lot of your problem may depend on what fiber you're eating and what your digestive system tolerates.

Is anyone Gluten Intolerant?

Hi I have an intolerance to wheat, recently diagnosed

I want to loose a stone in 7 weeks which will be 2lbs/week. I weigh 154lbs, I am 5ft 7, I am female and I am age 36. I exercise each week as follows:
Jog - at least 35 min every day
Gym (inc weights and cardio) - at least 30 min twice a week
Walk - at least 60 min/wk
Exercise bike - at least 60 min/wk? Many thanks
How many calories do you think I can have each day?

Hi Dana, thank you for the reply. The fiber in the breakfast is a English muffin with 8 gr. of fiber. My salad for lunch has: tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, red onion, green onions, steamed kale, cilantro, a few croutons and a teaspoon of Olive oil and lemon. My dinner has steamed green beans or steamed broccoli, chicken and a bit of carb like a cup of pasta. I've been a bit constipated a day before I started the diet and it remain the same. Hard bowl movement in the morning and afternoon and very hard at night. Normally fore is 4 to 5 great bowl movement a day.y dr knows it, it's been like that for years, so I hardly ever constipated, the opposite. Thank you, Sara.

OK your English muffins has 8 grams of fiber? That's a lot. Is it fortified with fiber, and does it contain inulin? Some people have issues with inulin, which is added to many foods to boost fiber content. The rest sounds fine: vegetables and so forth. but are you suggesting 4-5 BM daily was normal? that's actually not normal. Perhaps I read this wrong though. Once daily should be fine for most people. In any event, I'd suggest you add yogurt to normalize your gut bacteria.

I don't know if the English muffin fortified with insulin, how do I find out.
No u didn't read wrong, yes, 4 to 5 BM daily, I know it's a lots, my dr. Said that I'm not finishing, but I feel that I am. He did recommend pro bacteria which I took for a while but still was the same, anyways, it's a good idea for me to start taking it again. Tonight I had a normal BM so maybe finally it's changing.
