Hi,

I m new to this. I am on weight loss program. My question is, if i burn calories by exercise why do we need to add it..to DRI for eg: i am 26 year old male with 5.6" of height having a weight of 78kgs, with low activity level. Now my DRI is 2806 calories, and mynetdiary have adjusted it to 2045 calories. This means i have to eat 2045 calories to lose weight. And if i ate 873 calories, it means 2806-873 = 1933. And now if i burn 164 calories by exercises, then why these 164 calories are added to my personalized DRI which makes it 2097 calories. Why should i eat more..or m i making a mistake?....i gues i m understood...thanks in advance.

Hi Pamela, you can find reports for a week, month, 3-mo, 6-mo, and 1-year if you go on the web and go to Reports tab. I usually choose Nutrition Summary report first, and then the time frame. This is good to do regularly so you catch missing meal data early - delete meals in days with missing data so that your averages are more accurate.

Let me know if that works.

Hi Implicituser4415029 - I wrote an article on this very subject - how to understand the calories calculations used in MyNetDiary. Please read this article (found on the main website or in Library in iPhone or iPad apps): http://www.mynetdiary.com/customizing-calorie-goals.html

You can choose to "eat up" exercise calories burned that is more than that needed to create the calories deficit to allow you to stay on track for achieving your desired weight goal by your target date. It is helpful to have this information if you choose to use it since sometimes people go too low in their intake during weight loss.

Let me know if you have more questions after reading the article - I would be happy to explain more.

Since I'm a new - I'm starting over after a long pause - is there anyway to have the Dietitian going through our plan, so he/she can check and provide us with recommendations.

Question #2 Sugar intake is limited to 9 teapoons. When I eat fruits, yogurt and other food, my intake of sugar is way up. Any advice on this? Please and thank you.

Hi ImplicitUser1018422 - I just took a peek at your data and here are a couple of recs:

Since you are logging exercise, change your overall activity setting from low active to sedentary to avoid double-counting your exercise calories.

American Heart Association recommends limiting added sugars to 9 tsp (38 grams). It is a real hassle when foods contain both added and naturally occuring sugars and the label doesn't distinguish the two. I would count added sugar/syrup/honey, pop, and candy towards the 9 tsp (38 grams technically). I do not count fruit, yogurt, or milk.

Institute of Medicine rolls everything together and recommends < 25% total calories coming from all sources of sugars. I use this guideline and find it more helpful. MyNetDiary uses this guideline for extended nutrient tracking.

Really struggling to get iron & vitamins & minerals thru diet as opposed to supplements. I'm fairly small, so my recommended calories are just over 1500. If I eat the suggested foods, I go over on calories. Should I just give up & take a multi-vitamin & calcium?

Hello, I just started MyNetDiary and hope to lose 25 pounds by November. I've struggled with my weight for years on and off. I thought I had finally had it beat a few years ago but in the last year I've gained it all back again due to health issues. Two years ago I suffered insomnia and ate constantly to keep moving. But I was exercising a lot so managed to only gain some weight back. Finally got on the right meds and can sleep but a year and half ago, I was diagnosed with plantar fascitis in both feet. I was walking 2 miles a day and was a belly dancer dancing 2 hours, 3-4 days a week. Now I can barely walk through the grocery store and can only dance for 15-20 minutes at a time. I know exercise is an important part of losing weight but I can't exercise enough to make a difference. What else can I do to balance the lack of exercise? Any recommendations for exercises that won't hurt my feet? Doctor says I need to lose weight to help my feet but I can't exercise so can't lose weight. I feel like I'm caught in a vicious circle.

Great questions - I will be replying to you all on Friday (3/22). Hang tight til then.

Hi! i need help with my calorie count. My question I asked about this was lost in the feed from other posts.
My calories eaten and left area reflects actually what I have but under the analysis area it is off and showing that I have less calories left. Sometimes so much so that I'd have to skip a meal. 200-250 calories.
Can you explain to me why, am I doing something wrong?
Thank you
