excellent tips article! i use most of those as well; i think the regular exercise is very important; more than just burning calories; over several months, it definately improves your body firmness; number of reps much more important than increasing weights; hope this helps! MtnDog

I'm a massage therapist. How can I calculate calories used during a session?

Thanks MtnDog - glad you liked the article!

Accounting for calories burned while working as a massage therapist - Hi Esmt56, this one is tricky since your calories expended will vary depending upon what you are doing with each client. If you work full-time 5 days a week, then you could capture these calories with a lower risk of overestimating total calories burned by using a higher overall activity level - possibly light active or active (and then don't log your work as an exercise). Keep in mind that the overall activity level applies to all 7 days a week in terms of its affect on estimating total energy expenditure.

If you are trying to lose weight, then you want the error in the direction of underestimating total energy expenditure so keep that in mind when you choose your overall activity setting (and be sure you know what the settings mean). On your days off, don't log exercise if your exercise is already within the description of the overall activity level you have chosen. Only log exercise that is above and beyond what is already included in the activity level. This article has more information about how settings affect calories: http://www.mynetdiary.com/customizing-calorie-goals.html

I would not try to log your massage therapy work as exercise since logging many hours tends to overestimate total calories burned. Exercise calories burned are kcal/min and will always include a person's total energy expenditure for the time logged - so it is including resting metabolic rate calories and physical activity calories for the time logged. This overestmation error is relatively small when exercise is logged for under an hour but the error grows with the more time logged - like in hours.

hi Kathy! I'm a 30 year old female who has recently gained 10 pounds on the scale but what seems like 40 in the mirror. my weight is mainly in my hips and thighs and the good ole muffin top is there too. i used to be very active less than 5 years ago and I now have a 2 year old. I have been 1 year sober and cig free. I feel like the last two years I have done nothing but eat processed, fattening, unhealthy junk!!! what are the most important things that I need to focus on as far as getting back into eating healthy again.... do you suggest any supplements? any extra advice you can give me to help me jumpstart this new lifestyle up?! thanks in advance

sincerely,
desperate

Hi Katy, I would like to know which type of nuts I can get the highest protein? I very rarely eat meat and when I do it's a little chicken. The only beef I eat is in a beef patty once every couple of months.

hi Kathy
i am struggling with binging. i can go all day tracking and saying no to things and eating right. i still eat foods i like in much smaller portions to make sure it fits my macros... but around 7-9pm the monster comes out. it tends to happen when i am alone and no one is looking. i will eat beyond fullness because i start loathing myself for quitting and get so disgusted that i'll just keep on going and going.
suggestions on how to stop the self destructive pattern? how to prevent myself from binging. i feel like i cannot allow myself to make a mistake and after i do i don't stop myself from destroying all the hard work i put in
sincerely
self destructive
