My darn back is acting up again, so it's hard to move around and get the exercise I need. I've got some compressed discs that get bad. Does anyone else have back problems? The meds make it a little harder to lose. Whine whine whine. lol.

i hear you. I have fibro and spinal stinosis. I have been on heavey narcotics and decided to stop them. I gained 20 lbs over my extra 10 or 15 lbs and started to spend money. money is controllable by returning the next day. i can not return those stress pounds. i love to walk but my feet burn and the lower back and...........best I can do is 30 minutes at 3.o miles and hr a few days a week on the treadmill. might help to have a friend with pain problems. we could support each other. susan

Hi Susan: Sorry I just saw your reply. I think it's the meds that really do us in so much. I know when I'm on pain pills for my back all I want to do is eat and sleep. I think it's fantastic that you can do the 30 minutes a few days a week on the treadmill!

Oh and I'm still trying to figure out these charts. I thought I had a lot of calories I could eat until I realized that was if I exercised, and some days I didn't get it in!!! Well, at least the good thing about it it makes me more aware.

I used to love to walk outside, paths and parks, with dog or without. It saddens me that I can not do what I want. I still eat like I can and I was in OA and lost. No sugar is trhe way to go and eating clean. Getting off the narcotics the food addiction took off like crazy. hope you walked today

Hi Susan. Didn't see your reply till now. I'm having problems figuring out these message boards and what is posted where. I walked yesterday, and today got in half an hour swimming. Like you I used to love walking all over the place, but half an hour walk is all I can manage unless I want my back to kill me the next day. I need to cut back on my sugar also. So much to think of!

I am just beginning to get my strength back. I used my new recumbent bike for 7 minutes today. A beginning. I need another epidural for back pain as the first wore off fast. And I am dieting successfully. Really glad Spring is here, but so far I can't do much in the garden. Maybe soon.

One thing I did discover for walking with back pain. I can walk for exercise if I have some support like a shopping cart. I actually took a 10 minute walk through the store and parking lot of Safeway. Also, Ikea is a great venue for walking with a cart. Kind of weird, but effective.

Have you considered using walking poles? I don't have back problems but I do get knee pain from walking. I met an elderly fellow who had back surgery and he was out walking with his poles.
