I took my dietitian's advice and eat six small meals a day. For breakfast, lunch and dinner I try to keep carbs no higher then 50 grams. I have three snacks during the day I keep at 20 or below. This seems to work fine and my calorie intake is where she likes it. I have forsaken alcohol, sodas and sugar. Hopefully this will help

Not all carbs are created equally. I try to make sure that for every 10g of carb something has it has at least 1g of dietary fiber.

I am pre diabetic and want to take care not to get Into full blow disease mode I was told to watch my carbs and am doing that through my diet I am confused though about what are "good" carbs vs. "bad" carbs. I have cut out all sugar, pasta, breads and alcohol. I am confused about fruit carbs as they are recommended but contain many carbs. Any help on this? Thanks

1. Alcohol isn't a carb despite having calories. 2. Net carbs = total carbs - fiber

PS I to have diabetes. I used to take metforman. Now I take no medications, but use MYNETDIARY religiously. I eat normal meals and snacks excluding sugar and any white starches. I eat fresh fruit in moderation and often enjoy a glass of wine with my dinner. Occasionally I drink 2oz. of brandy. I have lost over 60 lbs in 1&1/2 years on 1800 calories plus walking 3 miles daily. My A1c, which I monitor quarterly, is 6.0

Diabetic since 2009 and take metformin er 500 mg twice a day. Two recent surgeries caused blood sugar average to increase to 165. Dr is considering changes medication but I am hesitant to take any of the newer meds. Is anyone taking meds like januva or other? This scares me but inspirese to start tracking carbs & set goal to reduce 30% of body weight. I didn't do anything previous surgeries. First day to health.

It is so easy to let things slip. I had done well over the last years, stopped my metformin, and had pretty good HBA1c. But then gradually the carbs crept back in. Why is everything nice made of carbohydrate ? And if not nice, why is every quick easy snack made of carbohydrate ? Any way, back to the slog after my short break and back to counting carbs and discovering the joy of fat

I like the fact that you are seeing initial results from using MyNetDiary. Keep iterating on yourself (making small changes) when you don’t see the progress you want. And keep checking in here.

We sometimes discover through detours that the OLD habits and ways of living are what got us here in the first place. I have found other joys of living and existing to focus on as additional rewards besides food. It’s not always easy, but the other enjoyable parts of living help me in changing my outlook.

Use the measurement called glycemic index to help you consider the potential impact of a particular food (carbohydrate) on your blood glucose. Basically the glycemic index is a statement of how quickly the food can be converted into sugar and absorbed into your bloodstream. The higher the index, the greater the potential impact on your blood glucose.
I am also finding out that regular aerobic activity (e.g. walking) is just as effective as insulin (or other insulin promoting medications) but much cheaper. All it costs is time and effort.
Try checking your WHY to see if it is focused and big enough to motivate and sustain your efforts.
