Carb Counting Topic

I am having a hard time understanding how to count carbs so that I don't go over my daily number. Is it that hard to manage? I have a lot of medical conditions to manage with my Type2 Diabetes and it's making me depressed. any suggestions?

I think if you keep tracking foods with mynetdiary it will become easier to see which foods contribute more carbs, plus adjust how many you can take in to help control blood sugar. I track carbs in grams, seems easier that way.

It's hard to try and stay within your Carb target and also eat enough calories, protein, fat, etc. I'm going crazy. My doctor told me to focus on Carbs, Sodium and Water. MyNetDiary shows me so many things and the analysis tells you you're not eating enough calories for breakfast but you are eating the right number of carbs per your doctor. How do I balance everything?

Hi, I am having the same problem. I was diagnosed on Oct 2012 with type 1. Totally devastated me as no one in my family has it. I'm still overwhelmed with all the do's and don'ts but try to live with it day by day. Some days are great and others not so much. I say that eat what you want within reason and be sure to take enough insulin to cover your reading and meal. Each day is different. I also am low on calories for breakfast and usually at the end of the day. I'm still trying to figure out how to eat more calories and still control my carbs. Not an easy task !

I showed my dietitian this program and she told me to focus on Carbs, Sodium, and my water restrictions. She doesn't want me to be overwhelmed and depressed. The calories will come as I eat. Right now, my fiber, fat, etc. isn't an important concerned. I'm doing really good she said. Sugars are looking very good since I've been using NetDiary. Yeah!!!!

15grams make a carb. I have type 2 diabetes and I'd let myself eat what I wanted and didn't pay attention. In early February I found myself at the doctor's office with a reading of 414. Got my attention. Now I'm taking 30 units of insulin- none before and using my app daily. My dietitian has told me to eat 3 carbs every meal and no snacks. I'm so glad the app helps me count the carbs and calories. But reading labels has helped too.

I am an advocate for managing my own care and not blindly following information from any source. there is a lot of good information here: http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitness/

The key is control. MND lets you track everything that can influence your blood sugar. You have to learn how your body responds. Test often. Keep track of you A1c. Learn how exercise affects you. Stay current on research.

Diabetes is something that must be managed, not treated. No one can do that but you.

I took my dietitian's advice and eat six small meals a day. For breakfast, lunch and dinner I try to keep carbs no higher then 50 grams. I have three snacks during the day I keep at 20 or below. This seems to work fine and my calorie intake is where she likes it. I have forsaken alcohol, sodas and sugar. Hopefully this will help

Not all carbs are created equally. I try to make sure that for every 10g of carb something has it has at least 1g of dietary fiber.

I am pre diabetic and want to take care not to get Into full blow disease mode I was told to watch my carbs and am doing that through my diet I am confused though about what are "good" carbs vs. "bad" carbs. I have cut out all sugar, pasta, breads and alcohol. I am confused about fruit carbs as they are recommended but contain many carbs. Any help on this? Thanks
