counting calories to see my servings sizes Topic

Hi folks - new here, I’m also trying to lose about 120 lbs. Like you, Joycetime, I lost about 100lbs 8 years ago, maintained for a while, and then slowly gained it back. I used medifast for about 9 months that time and then maintained for 2 or 3 years on ww and then gained it back, plus 7 pandemic pounds!

This time I am trying HMR foods, with some slight modifications/substitutions of my own. I seem to need a really rigid structure to lose weight, and it’s helpful/necessary for me to show a pretty immediate weight loss to keep me inspired to continue on.

I am mostly in a wheelchair for the last 3 years and I know that my increasing disability really hurt my mood and my determination to monitor what I eat.

It’s only been a couple of days but it’s an enormous relief to be following a plan and not be so out of control around sugar and bread stuffs!

Anyway, thanks to anyone who is reading. I hope the two of you in this thread so far are making it through the holidays OK!

Hi Riadeer, unhealthy eating habits are not fun. Like you said lose it gain it and so frustrating. I wish you the best and keep you eye on the track of healthy eating. Twenty or thirty years ago when I was losing weight and able to walk well had no problem just get it in my mind and could do it mostly but now whole different story. What I keep think if I want to continue living and able to get out and live I must lose this weight. It took me 8 months to realize I have to do this and got my mind in gear. Now for about little more 2 months I have been losing well. Now today I really kind of blew it ... I can not get my schedule out of wack or I do. I always get up and eat a pretty big breakfast around 10 than I eat a snack around 2 and eat dinner around 6 or 7...been doing good that way but today had to be somewhere so did have breakfast and snack right and wow at 9 tonight I was starving and ate and ate and ate. So today I learned I HAVE to put myself first and than let all rest fall in whenever. You can do this just listen to your mind and body and remember healthy body is the way to live again and enjoy time here on earth. Merry Christmas

Happy New Year, Joycetime! (I like your net diary name :-) I’m taking it to mean time for you!)

So far I’ve been being really strict this time around, no cheating. One thing I’m doing differently is not getting on the scales every day because I know day-to-day sometimes there’s no loss at all and I don’t want to be discouraged by seeing no loss or a even a little gain. So this time around I’m going to weigh in once a week.

I share with you the sadness and regret over our 20s and 30s and even in my case our 40s! I’m 70, and my most significant weight loss came in at 62, when I lost 100lbs . At the beginning of that loss I was barely able to walk at all, and I was skittering around at the end of it, so I know it can be done at your age. I know we can do this!!!

Definitely I’ve learned (over and over again ??) the lesson you learned about not taking care of yourself during the day and then just being starving at night. I have to eat about five times a day to keep hunger at bay, cause if I’m really hungry it’s all over.

That’s where what I’m eating becomes really important because some food to make me hungrier while others make me feel more satiated. My goal for this week is to make up a list so I have it handy of 100 calories or under & 200 calories or under healthy foods so I don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time trying to decide what to eat.

Hang in there! Thanks so much for replying to my post. I am focused on a better 2021 for all of us!!

Hi hope you both had a great Christmas! Welcome Raideer, I like your goal for this week. Joycetime I’m glad you’re losing. Starting during the holidays was really tough for me...hoping for a better week! Good luck

Hello. I’m new on here after leaving WW. Trying to get my weight loss moving again. I find the community setup very confusing.

Sherry A, I too belong to WW...but I have a contract until March 2021 so I will be staying. I tried to cancel and was just gone to use mynetdiary but found I had the contract...maybe that is God way telling to stay with them. So anyways after my horrible gain from Christmas holidays I started fresh with WW and here also. I like this site helps you with nutrients and that is alot of the base of losing. WW I don't like free foods I liked the old way of doing it but I guess they thought change was better. I feel what you put in your mouth should be counted for. After my gain from the holiday I realize I have a major problem and I need so much to work on it and get healthy. I to think this community setup is hard to understand but hang in there. I glade to see all the rest of you in here sound like we all need help and can help each other like Raideer ideas of food prep!

Joyce, WW is not bad. It can work. Problem is stopped working for me. I feel like the zero point foods got me in trouble. I had a month to month membership so I could cancel anytime. Food prep is definitely a good idea. I used to do that a lot until we bought a house and the fridge it came with is smaller than my old one. I do the best I can with the space I have. Someday I will get a bigger one. We can do this!!

Hi Sherry, welcome! I know the community setup is really different here, unlike WW where I thought there was a stronger support group. Good luck on your weight loss journey & you’re right “we can do this!”

Happy new year, everyone! Sherry, welcome! U6239456, I agree there was a much much stronger (and larger) community on ww.

I’d have stayed there for that, but counting points didn’t work for me, I need to count actual calories. And so far, I’m happy with the progress I’ve made doing it this way.

This week I’m trying to focus on drinking more water. I was really drinking a lot of juice at the end of my eat-whatever-you-want joyride, and I think water both keeps you healthy and decreases appetite.

I hope everyone out there has a much healthier year, I know we can ALLL do this!!! One meal at a time!

I wanted to pipe in as it seems I have something in common with you, Riadeer! I lost about 60 lbs around 8 years ago too and have since gotten married and have gained all that weight back plus some. I’ve been biking over 30 days in a row and have been tracking my calories everyday. I’m not seeing the scale move much but hopefully that time will come. I hope all of you are doing well on your journey and I hope to hear from you all soon!
