Counting steps? Topic

I just joined on 6/22/09 and have about 40 lbs to lose. My question is is anyone else here counting daily steps and how many per day is a good target number? I have a pedometer on my iPhone and I walk alot at my job so I thought I might be able to add that to my treadmill workout that I do at night. What are everyones walking goals here?

I don't have an answer to freeatlast2010's question, but have a similar one. How would I add my steps in as exercise? The system only has minutes. (and calories?)

I use an iPod nano with the Nike plus device on my shoe, so when I'm done walkin it tells me how fr I've walked, for how long and at what pace Whig are all relevat for entering on MyNetDiary.
I seem o always walk at about the 3.5 mph pace so always choose that one..
So if you did know you avh pace per hour you reallydont news tocount steps, in that you can just enter your exercise by ime you walked or by mileage.. I've been Doug this or 7 monks and it works really good, very close, like 1 hour walking I think I burn about 220 more marginal calories thM foin nothing. Or I could enter 3.5 miles as the distance and it'd give me the same. And I walked half an hour then I'd know he entry should come up at 110. REMEMBER if you et confused from a readout tellin you you burned 320 calories in an hour walk that that means total calories including your base metabolic rate which at MyNetDiary is already included (ie the BMR) so you want just the additional marginal calories burned by walking
For me I burn about 80 calories an hour on my bmr.. another rule of thumb is that you will burn 100 calories for each mile you walk. So if I walk 3.5 miles in one hour then in total I've burned 350 but then I'd want to subtract my BMR of about 80 so my net additional calories to enter into MyNetDiary would be 270 for me

If you have a iPhone there are many apps that count steps for you. Just look for a pedometer in the app store.
