Glad to hear of everyone's success in keeping the weight off, as well as adjusting safely when it climbed with the holidays.
We are having a cold snap here in Colorado. Not enough snow to cross-country ski where I live but I'll try hiking in open space for some calories burning.

I'll bet "cold snap" for you is a lot colder than it is for me, but I froze this morning in boot camp (outdoors, in a park) at 31 degrees! I even had to scrape ice of my car windows -- not what I moved to Silicon Valley for!

I agree with Febrown that maintenance is harder than losing. Would like to hear about what motivates all of you in the maintenance phase when you can't get that thrill of seeing the decreasing numbers on the scale. Have been maintaining since end of June and at some point you stop getting those wonderful "you look great" compliments from folks who haven't seen you in awhile and everyone just accepts you for where you are at normal weight. What motivates you to keep up the logging and the jogging and the gym going?

My motivation comes from within. Every day I look in the mirror and cannot believe that person looking back at me is really ME!!! The REAL me is back!!! I am so proud of myself and presently nothing would induce me to go back to the way I was. I ran into someone this week I hadn't seen for nearly 30 years and she did't know I had been so overweight in the years in between. It was so refreshing to talk to someone who treated me as if I had always been "normal" weight. I can't wait for the time my friends stop bringing up the subject. It is such a relief to finally be "normal" again.

I had a bit of a blow out with trips for Christmas, new years and then 10 days at a resort.
All in all I ended up putting on 6Kg!
Not going to let it get me down, I want to be 75Kg by the end of March so I'm back to it. Healthy food and lots of exercise!!
My motivation is my upcoming first child. My wife is 5 months pregnant and I just really didn't want to be the fat dad who can't play with his kids in the park without getting out of breath.
As soon as we decided to try for a child is when i said enough's enough and started the weight loss in earnest.
As for maintaining, i think it would be very hard, but keep some reminders, clothes, pics etc so you can look back. Not to use them to scare you, but to show what you can achieve!

I also look in the mirror in the evening to remind myself that I like how I look...it is reaffirming and inspirational. It helps me make the time to eat well and exercise the next day. The other thing that helps me is tracking - it really helps me stay accountable. Every once in a while, I feel a little embarrassed about my nutrient intake on some days since after all, I am the consulting dietitian with MND, but I get past it in a few seconds. I'm human first, then a dietitian. I also love being able to include some of my favorite high calorie foods periodically and still maintain. That makes me feel like I have a lot of options and variety....makes maintenance possible for me.

Actually Kathy, it is really nice to meet a dietitian that is not a nutritional Goddess, because that means that you understand what the rest of us have to go through to get where we're going :)
You look smashing, so it's a good way to keep yourself in check :)
I have already decided that I am going to log food for the rest of my life. It's a great tool for me to keep up with my blood glucose, because (with my 6 daily measurements) I know I will see it right away if I get out of line :)

Thanks, Sune - I didn't become a registered dietitian until well into middle-age. And I will take your compliment and run with it.
I will also log forever. I like it since it is easy and it helps me with sodium as well as calories. Sodium intake is the bane of my existence. One of the hardest things for me to consistently limit to goal. Groan.

I cannot see how I would every be able to successfully maintain without logging forever also. Like driving blind
