Hi - I wish that we could spot-tone and reduce but the body will reduce body fat where it will, and allow underlying musculature to shine - so in that sense, we look more buff or toned.
Abs: I do these daily to support my lower back health and prevent/reduce risk of pain. I do at least 3 types of ab exercises, prescribed by my PT. The nice thing is, as I have lost weight, my stomach/waist does look more attractive because of my underlying musculature. But again, I do these exercises daily for supporting a bad back not for toning per se.
1. Lowering one leg at a time, 20 reps each leg, one leg straight, the other bent to support my lower back.
2. Leg circles: one leg bent, lower back to floor, and the working leg straight and doing circles in the air: 15 clockwise R leg, switch to 15 clockwise L leg; repeat with counterclockwise rotations.
3. Bicycles - 20 reps.
4. Extra: side bends in both directions.
Sorry, a demo would be easier.
I think doing an ab routine DAILY is what keeps the ab muscles strong and "toned."
Let me know how it works out for you!

Good luck!

I try to do my Pilates tapes and notice when I do them regularly my tummy looks much better and my back feels better. I have one with several different work outs from 10 minutes to 30 minutes and even the short ones really help.

I love Pilates too! I haven't done any routines in ages but I used to. I need to get back to it.

Hangin' in there! Maintain weight at around 78 kg now for over a year. Down from 114 at heaviest. "Weight of the Nation" on HBO got me scared now to lose more and get BMI down to 21 or 22!!!

Still tracking. Just looked back at a post from when I hit goal over two years ago. Trying to stick to maintenance. Up a few lbs. from goal (bouncing up and down a few lbs since the holidays)right now and really focusing on exercise to try to keep that scale going in the right direction.

Great to hear from you all! Maintenance at a weight that is doable is better than killing yourself to get down by one more BMI point. Bouncing around a little is expected, but good that we are all weighing in and catching the ups before they signal significant weight regain.

Hello! I am new to the group and wanted to check in with everyone. I am down a total of 50 pounds thus far and have been using net diary for 4 months now. I love it...really keeps me on track. I track daily to really help me keep on goal. I need to lose about 20 more pounds. I joined just to get tips on maintenance as it's not too far off for me now.

Wellcome. good for you. any hel we can give you.
I have found for me maint is harder than I thought.Just always have to be mindful and make choices. Helps to keep the reasons this was important to you in the first place. Everything you used to loose the weight you will need to maint. it. I have been at goal it will be 2 years in Aug.
Studies show that weight maint is not always successful if you fall back on old habits and don't use tools to keep it off. You need to always be mindful. I know you can do it. Welcome on board- Fran
