Good work Fran. I had a conference last week. Managed to get to the gym a couple of times while there, got out to walk one day and did pretty well with the eating. Will see how the weigh in goes on Thursday. Back to better eating this week!

Hi Misser55 - looks good! Wow - you lost 40 lbs. Must feel great, huh? I think you told me you take Calcium & Vit D, right? I would be sure to take those if you don't already.
I think we have talked about this before, but getting regular physical activity as you are able to is important. But your intake looks fine.
Best,
Kathy Isacks, MPS, RD

Weigh in this week and just up a few ounces from where I was before my conference and anniversary party, so I feel pretty good about that. Still striving to fit in more exercise which has been difficult for a variety of reasons. Isn't it funny that when we are stressed and need those happy exercise hormones the most is when it seems hardest to get to the gym? Have a day off tomorrow. Son in school. Gym here I come!

Lost an entire long post-ugh.
Greta bet the dress was amazing to wear for your aniversary. Glad the weight is cooperating. All of our celebration cause potential nightmares.
Weight maintainace group this week was difficult as so many are struggling. Always makes me uneasy as but for the grace of God go I. We are faced with decisions so many times in a day. I have 2 lovely ladies who are struggling. I hope they can find what will work for them. Stress and life issues make eating so easy but we cannot change what life hand us we have to find non food ways to deal with them. Sounds so easy but as we all know it isn't. A person in the group made a comment that I have been thinking about. That they need to do what I do which is to always be in the diet mode. I have been think about that statement. Am I in a perpetual diet mode having been in maintainance since Aug 2010? Have have kept off 140 pounds by doing what I do. It is still a focus but is it a fdiet. At this point I am not sure. I do know that without vigilance exobesity people can regain all of what they have lost. Studies have most people 80-90% regaining. Isn't that dismal. Those are the statistic so I guess that is why I have stayed in the"diet" mode.
I have an email out to the MD who runs the clinic regarding fat cells and long term weight loss and time laps for excess calories to be converted to fat. Looking for clinical studies.
I do believe that people who have hade obesity issues require less calories than people who have never had those issue ,to maintain weight.
Well hope everyone is doing well. I am continuing my pepetual weight maint. "diet"-Fran

That is a really thought-provoking post Fran. I am going to try to regard this vigilance, this maintenance mode as a gift I give myself and the people I love. Even when I was working toward my goal I tried to avoid the "D" word and just told myself that I wanted to make some healthy changes, learn more about nutrition and regain some balance in my relationship to food and my body. That helped a lot--the "D" word tends to make me feel deprived. Sometimes I am more vigilant than others but I try to be kind to myself and remember that every day is full of opportunities to make healthy choices.
I would love to hear about what you find out from the MD about the time lapse for excess calories to be converted to fat. Have a great weekend!

Just another thought - I think time lapse between excess calories and storage in adipose tissue is not the whole picture. We also need to know the ability of the body to use adipose tissue for energy when needed - esp. when a calories deficit has been created and the rate at which energy is needed is slow (e.g. sleeping). Fat use for fuel utilization is highest when the rate at which energy is needed is lowest. I hope the doc considers this too - and not just the fat storage issue.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
