Disappearing Exercise “credit” Topic

I’m syncing my Garmin watch with the app.
When I start my day with 400 calories of exercise, as it appears in the MyNetDiary app, the number gradually grows smaller over the course of the day.
I understand and accept the BMR differences with the initial calculation, but what is happening over the course of the day? What about on days when I don’t exercise, and the number in the “Exercise” section does not go negative?
Is there a formula I can use to know how much of a reduction I can expect?
Thank you.

Hi Buzz_Fatyear,

I sent your question to our support team as I don't know the answer. Is it possible for you to email the support team directly at support@mynetdiary.com and possibly send them some screenshots? I bet they will need a little more information and they can also look into your account. Thanks for your patience! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Hi Buzz_Fatyear,

This is Valerie from MyNEtDiary Tech.Support Team. Let me explain how it works.

Garmin download creates a "Garmin Active Calories" entry at MyNetDiary Exercise, which is different from the Daily Total Calories you see on the Activities tab on the Garmin Connect website. MyNetDiary exercise includes only the calories burned in addition to a normal lifestyle determined by your personal activity level (https://www.mynetdiary.com/supportArticle.do?articleId=6301) This is why MyNetDiary subtracts Weight Maintenance Calories calories (https://www.mynetdiary.com/supportArticle.do?articleId=328) from the downloaded total calories:

Garmin Active calories = Garmin Total Calories Burned − Sum(Garmin Workouts) − MyNetDiary Weight Maintenance Calories

If Garmin's total calories minus the sum of Garmin ExWorkouts are less than Weight Maintenance Calories, Garmin Active calories exercise is set to zero because negative exercise cannot be used by MyNetDiary planning and analysis features.

Make sure you have chosen the same timezone in MyNetDiary and Garmin, also make sure your body weight, gender, and date of birth settings are the same in both systems.

We recommend setting MyNetDiary Activity Level to Sedentary, because "Garmin Active Calories" includes only calories above your activity level, so the Sedentary level in MyNetDiary gives you the most "Garmin Active Calories" value.

I hope that makes sense.

Kind regards,
Valerie L.

Hi Valerie L.

Thank you for your answer. I'll take a look at those settings.

Hi Again, Valerie L.

I accessed the Garmin Connect app on my mobile.
Instead of "activity level", there is a 10 pt. scale.
Since I set the activity level in MyNetDiary to sedentary, I set it to zero with Garmin.

Hopefully that will do it.
