I have a vendor I call "Donut Dave" (I don't think I have to explain why.) He was delivering a BOX of donuts several times a week along with my printing samples!! I finally emailed him a stock photo of a really obese woman in a bikini and told him it was me and that my husband was upset with the way I look in my bikini this year. He got the joke and ALSO started bringing fresh fruit. I know one can over-indulge on fruit, too, but so far, I think it is an improvement.

I rely on gum in the office. In order to get to the restroom at my workplace, you have to walk through the kitchen. 4 out of 5 days during the week, there are cookies, cakes, candy, chips, donuts, or some other temptations sitting on the counters with "Eat Me" signs. On days when I am feeling stressed or weak in will-power, I pop a stick of gum in my mouth on the way to the restroom - the strong minty flavor and smell of the gum decrease my cravings for whatever pitfall lies in my path. I also take a gum to staff meetings, so that if someone brought in a tempting 'treat' (inevitable!) I just pop a piece of gum in my mouth and it really helps...

Hello, Just joined. My biggest challenge is feast and famen. I get caught up in my work and racing against the clock that I go all day without eating and then I am starving and find myself eating too much of too many bad foods. I have to work on making it a priority to stop and eat throughout the day. This will allow my metabolism to work better too.

NorthernGirl: Are you able to schedule small snacks into your day? I wonder if it would help to make some recurring appointments on your computer calendar or phone (depending on which you'll actually hear/see) that remind you to have a snack throughout the day - for instance, at 10:30 and 2:30 have a protein + fiber/light carb snack (I like yogurt + a few pretzels in the morning and an apple or carrots with small amount of peanut butter in the afternoon, for instance). I rely on my calendar w/ alarms to remind me when to have lunch b/c I can get really caught up in my morning ... and if I skip lunch then I do the over-eating in the afternoon when I'm really hungry. I also try to make sure I have a healthy light snack to eat on my drive home from work so that I'm not ravenous when I walk through the door at home. At any rate, it takes many repetitions to form a new habit such as stopping through the day to have a snack, but once you get some practice and incorporate that into your routine for a month or so, I bet it will become easier. Good luck! :)

That is a good idea to set alarms throughout the day. I esecially like the idea of having a snack, maybe an apple, in the car on the drive home from work...I'll have to give it a try tomorrow!

Post back to report on whether that works for you - the alarms and apple on the way home!

I finally resorted into putting a fridge in my office. I had been reluctant to do this in the past because I was worried I would end up with lunch leftovers or start collecting unhealthy snacks. So far, so good! Only fruits, veggies, lean meats, yogurt and V8 - it has actually made it easier as I stop at the grocery store on my way into work on Mondays and just pick up a weeks worth of healthy food and snacks. If you have the option to have a fridge or have a work fridge available to you, maybe give that a try too.

Northerngirl, I set an alarm on my cell phone to remind me to eat lunch. I too, would work through not realizing until I was ravenous! By then it too late and I' d eat anything in sight and of course I didn't feel well either. So I set this really obnoxious crowing rooster to crow at 11:45 everyday. He alerts everyone in the area that it's tIme to eat. Not only is this rooster effective , he makes great entertainment!.
