Congratulations! I'm still trying to figure out what the best calorie count is for me. My metabolism is so slow.

I am reading this book about Glycemic Load and the author says to eat no starch, but anything else you might want. Last time I did that, I didn't lose any weight, but I'll try to do it again. I crave starch more than I do sweets. I haven't found the best calorie count for me this time around yet either. I'm just trying to concentrate on exercising more.

About 10 years ago I had an endocrinologist tell me to eat as few carbs as possible. I went on the Atkins diet and ate almost none. I lost weight, but when I started eating carbs again gained it all back. I think for me the trick is to eat, as far as grains and starches go, 2, maybe 3 servings max a day. I'm like you with the starches. I bake all my own bread so it's hard to limit myself. I can stay away from sweets, too!

Well, I see you exceeded your exercise goal, that's great.I've been exercising like a demon and I gained two pounds.I'm so depressed. I'm tempted to cut back on exercising.

Thanks. It's been very slow. The first week I lost nearly 5 pounds, second week I gained 5 pounds when I weighed myself this past Sunday, Monday it said I lost 2 pounds, and today, Thursday, it says I lost 2 ounces. And I'm on the 2 pounds a week diet! Well, I guess you could say I've lost 2 pounds this week, but I gained 5 pounds first. ARrrggh.

Did you ever get your tape measure? I know I've always put on muscle weight quickly when I start exercising, particularly if it's lifting weights. I'm not lifting weights now, but walking, so it may not apply now, but for you it might.

Several years ago I had the same thing happen to me while exercising and dieting, so I know how you feel. I don't know the answer, but don't give up trying. There must be a solution. Look how much you've lost already!

I have a tape measure, but I'm afraid of more bad news. I don't see how you can gain muscle from just walking a lot. The last time I measured myself, I was an inch smaller around the waist than what I was when I was 40 pounds heavier. I don't think that's very good, although I'm two sizes smaller. I was very bad today. I ate 1900 calories, but I was only 29 calories over my goal due to walking a lot.

I'm no expert, but I'm assuming that if you walk an hour or more a day (or maybe less) that you build muscle, which has some weight. A trainer would be the best person to ask how much. I've always put on muscle quickly. I'm not sure how much muscle and how fast we do now that we're older, though. When I was weight lifting and walking I bulked up pretty fast. I sure wish I could afford a gym membership again.

5 years ago I was working out 1-1/2 hours a day, and walking 2 miles every evening. I weighed 165 but looked like I was much smaller. Then I listened to a trainer who said I needed to eat more carbs and gained the weight back. Sigh.

I haven't lifted weights since 2000. I walked and climbed stairs for an hour today. My hip is beginning to bother me. That's not good, because I have a volunteer job for which I have to walk for two hours. I am committed to do it for a year. I can never tell whether I'm in my calorie limit or not until I count them at the end of the day. Was good today.

Stairs are killers for me, too. I live on the second floor, with no elevator, so when I have to lug groceries up and down it kills me. I hope you did ok at work today. I'm trying to walk an hour a day too, 1/2 hour in the morning and 1/2 hour late afternoon.

My hip has repaired itself, but now I have a general tired feeling when I walk and when I get up in the morning. I looked at my stomach yesterday and it looked pretty good. I'm scared to get on the scale, though.
