Best thing I can suggest is really look at what you're eating. When I changed to eating higher fiber, lower fat, higher protein and more fruits and veggies I noticed I wasn't as hungry anymore.

Another suggestion for when you eat fast food is go for the kids meal an get the healthy side item. For example, at Burger King a kids burger shots is 220 calories and you can sub the apples for fries so your whole meal is less than 300 calories. You'd be surprises by how satisfying it can be!

love the kids meals with apples! It's a great quick fix when I'm on the job and have to eat on the run (and can't find Subway)

Subway's new breakfast menu looks great! You can get an egg white & cheese muffin and it's only 150 cal / 3.5g fat! Yum!!! Can't wait to try one!

My advice is to avoid eating out all together.... Doing research I found that even the healthy options most restaurants offer are high calorie and more sodium than a salt lick.
Give you an example, I am not sure if you have them where you are at... but 99 Restaurant and Pub's Buffalo chicken salad without dressing has 590 calories, 220 of them is from the whopping 25 g of fat. Then if you are trying to watch the sodium in take as well forget it. This wonderful so called healthy salad has 2030 mg of it.
So as you see it is just better off to eat home and save your money not to mention your health.
I use to eat out more often that I ate at home and all it got me was almost a heart attack. I had to get angioplasty done to open a blockage. So now I avoid the restaurants at all costs.

I agree eating out screws with the diet of even the most dedicated person. Sometimes though you just cant help it. Im on the road a lot and and i either do my training before 5-6 am or in the evening if i am home i in time. But some times im out away from home on a job and cannot get home to feed myself. Sooo fast food is the only option. I have no problem eating fast food as i burn around 1000 calories a day exercising, thats without the calories spent doing my job but the problem i have is i hate not knowing whats going in my mouth or how many calories i then have left for the rest of the day.

The last time I lost 100 pounds (I know, it shouldn't be a habit), I was super ecstatic, not to mention surprised, to find out that it is absolutely possible to eat at the restaurant almost every day without gaining a pound (and even have that glass of red wine with dinner). It's just about making the right choices and eating right 90% of the time. (and doing at least 30 minutes of cardio every day...for me that's what always worked anyways).
Most restaurants and fast food chains offer nutritional information right on their products / menu, or on their website. If they don't, or you're not sure, start your meal with a soup or salad to fill yourself up (if you can add a glass of water to that appetizer, it's even harder to do real damage to your diet afterwards). At Wendy's for example, I love to have their salad with light ranch dressing, along with their chili. If I'm really in the mood for a burger I'll have a grilled chicken sandwich. Always ask for the dressing on the side so you know exactly how many calories you added to your salad....1 tablespoon of dressing contains = roughly 100 calories(like almost everything that tastes great :-/ ). Then opt for lean cuts of beef, chicken, pork or a nice fish if possible. Nothing deep fried or breaded, avoid "gratiné" stuff, try skipping butter and oil and most importantly, ask the waiter to remove the bread basket from the table so temptation is not staring right at you. Ordering a side of steamed veggies is always the smart choice over a baked potato, fries or rice (although if you don't kill the baked potato with trimmings it's real healthy). If you HAVE to have pasta, choose a dish with a tomato sauce instead of meaty or creamy sauces, cut the portion in half and doggy bag the rest!
Whenever I allow myself to order a desert nowadays, I try to share it with my husband. I get only half the calories (well ok, I always end up getting a bit more than half) and still get to share an amazing piece of cake...Ultimately, I have a much better time going to the restaurant now that I'm watching what I eat, than when I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted. Now whenever I exit a restaurant I feel great because I made the right food choices while having a blast and most importantly, without the usual guilt trip when it's time for the dreaded morning after weigh-in. After a few months of eating right, my body doesn't even want the greasy fried stuff anyways. We can do this people!! :)

I did see this! I went out to Red Lobster and to Ruby Tuesdays and have found meals under 500 calories.... I try and keep my meals down to 300 calories each meal... but.. I like me some food!! Thanks for this post!!! Now I do not feel as bad for "pushing my luck" as I put it!

Wow..sunny! Great advice, and 100lbs lost? OMG!? THat's awesome! I too go out to eat frequently. All over those kids meals with the apples or fruit, lol. I live in NZ, and the eating options are way more limited than in the US. In fact when I go back to the states it's all low fat this, low calorie that. Not in NZ - people usually drink the full fat milk, let alone have market demand for resturants that offer low cal foods. Thank goodness there's subway here though.
