Hi! I'm a 15 year old female, trying to get/stay on track! I'm about 104 lb (is this a good weight to maintain?) and right around 5'3ish-5'4. I live a pretty healthy life style, and do not have the diet of a normal teen. I do NOT eat processed foods, And mostly stay away from packaged foods except for siggis yogurt, that's my packaged food exception! I love fresh fruits and veggies and they play a HUGE part in my diet as well as turkey and chicken for some protein! I LOVE kombucha (a drink), but I'm not sure if the health rumors or true or just a myth. Anyone have any opinions on kombucha id love to hear! Anyway! I get pretty involved with my school work and don't have time for sports during the week days but I try to work out at the the with a trainer on the weekends! Any tips or suggestions on maintaining a healthy life style, any meal suggestions?
Much love -C

Hi C (U5502129), you are at a healthy BMI for your age/sex - growth charts are used for teens your age. You definitely do NOT need to lose weight.
Ideally, the recommendation is that teens get 1 hour of moderate (or vigorous) daily activity- this can be walking or even dancing during study breaks. Maybe that is an area to work on during the weekdays? Great for stress reduction too.
Great that you focused on unprocessed foods. How are you doing with protein at every meal + plenty of veggies? Fresh fruit 2-3 pieces or servings daily?
Kombucha: WebMD has a good but short article: http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/truth-about-kombucha

Hi C here, will try my best to start getting in more exercise! Yes I get plenty of protein and veggies/ fruit! I usually have siggis yogurt with a banana or some pineapple in the morning. And for lunch it just depends how hungry I am. Either a salad on warm days or turkey with butternut squash on cold days at school or I might just have a nice big honey crisp apple! When I get home I snack on either carrots or frozen grapes and get my studying done, when dinner time comes around my normal dinner is either chicken or turkey with a sweet potato and green beans or broccoli! My recent favorite has been chicken stuffed with a little feta, spinach and artachoke hearts!

Your meals sound delicious and high in veggies and lean proteins. And 2-3 small pieces of fruit sounds great. Add activity that you enjoy. Thanks for checking in!

after 4 months on MND; mediterranean style food plan; 1 hr treadmill each day; 15.7% reduction in weight (318 to 268); 8 inch reduction in waist size; my lab work (AIC, LDL, HDL, etc.) all are nearing normal levels; going forward: per MND, need to increase protein avg daily intake; add more seeds/nuts/veggies into diet mix; using flax seed, pine nuts, pepitas, spinach salad kits to work this area; long way to go on my health journey to normal BMI/weight but am enjoying the journey and feel blessed to have MND and Kathy to assist along the way. thanks, MtnDog
