Food Log/ Recipe Builder Enhancement Topic

It would be beneficial if the food log and recipe builder included an option for "full container". For instance, I recently built a recipe for Chili that we eat about once a month. There is one can of dark red kidney beans, one can of light red kidney beans, one can tomato sauce, and two cans of Rotel Tomatoes with Habanero peppers among several other fresh ingredients and ground beef. For each of the cans, I had to manually enter and calculate what a full can serving is because there is no option to scan or to choose the entire package. If there were the option to scan the item and choose the entire container it would be faster and quicker.

Hello,
Thank you for bringing this out,
I will pass your suggestion to our developers to see if we can implement this.
Some vendors print the food label info for the "container" serving; others are for specific serving in the 'volume' unit of measurements. Others are in the 'weight' unit of measure. While adding a particular item to our database, we use the exact serving description printed on the actual package.
While using the foods from the database as the ingredients to create a custom recipe, MyNetDiary takes their weight descriptions into account while calculating the total weight for the whole recipe. Suppose at least one ingredient does not have weight info. In that case, MyNetDiary cannot calculate the total weight for the recipe, and the user has to enter this approximate value manually.
While creating a recipe (e.g., "chili"), you can scan the barcode of the particular ingredient and adjust the default serving to the weight for the whole can. Suppose the vendor does not provide the serving info in 'weight' measurements. In that case, you can use the item with a similar name among generic things in our Staple Foods catalog. Enter this ingredient with the weight of the whole can (e.g., add the "15 oz" or "543g" as a portion of the added ingredient.) So, MyNetDiary will be able to calculate a weight for the whole recipe then.
MyNetDiary cannot automatically calculate the Total Servings for the recipe because one ingredient can be dissolved into another. A cup of "water" and cup of "sugar" still gives you a "cup" as a total serving for such a 'recipe.' Or, a cup of "popcorn" and a cup of "oil blend" give you the same "cup" serving for the whole 'recipe.' I understand that these examples are a little bit unrealistic and funny. Still, they give you an idea of why we cannot calculate it and why you have to enter the full recipe serving manually.

I hope this makes sense. If this does not help or if you have other suggestions, please send us your concern at support@mynetdiary.com along with the screenshot of the particular example so that we can follow up.
