Happy 2013 Topic

Happy New Year! I am new to this group and look forward to learning and losing with you.

On January 1st I posted this as my facebook status "Got off to a good start for the new year. Continued both my new daily exercise routine and my new healthier diet! Got the bad news I have Type 2 Diabetes on November 6; went into head in the sand mode until December 4th hoping meds alone would fix things. New tests weren't good so I started trying to eat more fruits and veggies. Two weeks later I was given 1 more week to get my numbers down, or I would have to go on insulin... Got the bejesus scared out of me and started a daily exercise routine and cut out sugar and reduced other carbohydrates too. Ended 2012 down 10 lbs. and not on insulin! I'm dedicated to making a healthier lifestyle my new way of life."
It is now January 10th and I am still going strong. It may sound silly to be so proud of myself after only 24 days, but 25 days ago I didn't know if I could do this for one day, let alone 24. I have only lost one more pound as of today for a total of 11, but I feel better and the way my clothes fit is already starting to change. I'm not exactly happy to have been diagnosed with diabetes, but it was the kick in the pants I needed to make the change to a healthier lifestyle. When I was diagnosed I felt like I was drowning and didn't have a clue what to do to fix things, but now I feel like I am on track to a new healthier me. I am hoping joining this team will be an additional support to keep me motivated when I get down. I, too, look forward to learning and losing with you.

I sort of parallel you, was diagnosed Nov. 9, was not prepared for it. Fortunately, medication, change in diet, and exercise seem to be working well.

Although I'm still not quite over the frustration (sometimes downright anger) when passing apple pies, etc., in the bakery department!

Keep up the learning and losing!
