Hi! I'm a newbie. Looking to get a handle on my emotional eating so that the changes I make will stick in the long term.

That's great! What kind of changes are you making so far?

@wouterra. Trying not to snack unnecessarily at night. Seems to be going ok so far. Although, I still feel a very strong urge to eat whenever I am stressed or upset.

It can be difficult but keep up the fight. What I've found to be the biggest help for me in that regard is not eating triggering foods. I've cut out refined sugar (I have a huge sweet tooth). I tossed out all the sugar in my home so I can't bake anything for a craving. Refined carbs i don't keep in the home either. I don't eat processed foods so I loose a bit in convenience but I feel that's helped too as they tend to be full of refined carbs.
It may seem strict but I feel really good and have less ups and downs emotionally since I've made these changes. I will deviate from this occasionally but rarely.
If I start lusting after something unhealthy at the grocery store I will (to myself) call the item poison repeatedly and think of healthy alternatives or move on.

Yesterday was Day 3 of my journey and after all the meals were over and done, about 8-10 pm I ran into so many frustrations that usually would have thrown me off track and led to at least some quasi-healthy overeating. Got through it by thinking that eating will not solve my frustration. Was very inspired by the "success stories" on mynetdiary that I looked at the day before. Feeling successful!

I know it's my fault that I have gained 10 pounds. I am 1003 calories over my goal. Stupid! What is wrong? What am I doing and why do I keep doing it? So mad at myself because I keep telling myself to change and yet I can't.

There is no such thing as can't. One baby step at a time. One little change at a time and you can, in slow steps. Look at the good. Every body falls, get up and take a small step to can. Because You CAN. You knew you fell that's the biggest step. :)

Love the "baby steps" concept.
