Hi, I've used MND on and off for a while, but would like to understand how I can be of support, and also get support on a regular basis. I'm 43, 5'2" and 140 lbs. I would like to get to 125 lbs. I have been steadily gaining a couple of pounds every year.
I don't plan on following a "diet", except to but sugary and wasted calories, and to eat cleaner and healthier. I am starting to exercise, but have yet to make it a habit. I met with a personal trainer last week. After a body scan of some sort, I was told that the amount of my body that was "fat" was 35%. Normal range for women was something like 20-30%, and for women that were "in shape", it was in the teens.
Thanks for letting me introduce myself.

Hi. I am new here today. I have done weight watchers, with great success, but it is just not in the budget right now. I am 5'9" and 160 lbs. I am hoping to get down to 145. I would love to be a buddy for you. This can definitely be a challenging journey.

hi implicituser, nice to meet you. i also did weight watchers with great success back in 2001 and went from 168 to 125 however over the years some of my weight has found its way back. lol I think counting calories works really good. Ive been trying to do without sugar since monday and the first couple of days was very rough but today was much better. I am trying to stay at 1400-1500 calories. What are some of your go to foods? I have to have my whole wheat apples muffins. It is a weight watcher recipe from before and they are my go to food when i need something extra. maybe we can exchange some recipes or give a menu sample of what we eat. Something to keep us motivated. :) It is so hard on some days

I am a sugar addict. I cannot live without it. I am a vegetarian, so I eat a ton of fruit and vegetables. The hardest thing has been keeping away from pasta and cheese pizza. However, when I do have a craving, I now use spaghetti squash. I also eat a lot of hummus in its wide variety of flavors. I never really used any weight watcher recipes...I am a terrible cook. However, if it is bad for you, especially cookies, then I can make you. I am supposed to be at 1700 calories a day, but I generally only get in about 1500. I also walk about three miles a day and I try to kickbox or zumba every morning. What kind of exercises do you do? I sometimes have a hard time forcing myself to do these things.

I am also a sugar addict, ice cream being my number one vice. chocolate second. I have never tried hummus, don't really know how to fix it or what to do with it. I eat quite a bit of chicken and love boca burgers. all my recipes are easy to make. i'm not into fancy cooking, using alot of spices and stuff. half of that stuff i don't even know what it is. as far as exercise, i am a runner. I have done 2 full marathons, several halfs and alot of small races. Running is my prozac. If I go to many days without it , i am not fit to be around. You think with running i would not have trouble controlling my weight but i am either really good and eating healthy or totally off the wagon and binging. its a terrible cylce. I also love love love the firm videos. I have been doing those for over 20 years and just got my firm express in the mail over the wekend. This morning I did speed intervals on the treadmill for a total of 3 miles and one 90 sec plank. I'm really trying to work on my core. Hope you have had a good day

The most recent response here was a year and a half ago. Are those of you in here still working on it?
It was a rough year for me as far as weight loss/fitness goes. I started in June what I normally start in January. A friend and I started an accountability agreement, picking some healthy lifestyle change to implement each month. In June we gave up refined sugars including highly processed flour and the like. I've lost 10 pounds (male, 48, 232 Lbs down to 222 Lbs) in the month.
July we've decided to track our calories to 1,800-2,200/day. So, I've started back using MND. I never joined teams/groups in the past, so I'm curious how the accountability here may benefit me, and if I can be of encouragement to others.
My best method of kicking sugar is starting off with Atkins. In the first few days of doing Atkins, the sugar cravings always go away. I've heard that if you struggle with sugar, increasing your protein would help. Cheers.

Carlsonb - GREAT progress! Small steps will build into a bunch of great habits. I only joined about 3 weeks ago but think accountability helps quite a bit. Sugar is my hardest issue - I declared July a Junk Free month... no sugar, no fast food, no alcohol. So far I have lost 4.7 lbs (granted I was very bloated on day 1). Feeling great.
