Hoping to lose finally. Topic

Hi, just joined today. Trying really hard. I am hoping to lose my last 30#. At 77 this has been a long battle. My DH on lowcarb for hus diabetes so I am trying to work with him. He has lost 13 pounds in 2 weeks and I have lost 3. Nothing this week. Wow! How depressing. But it has to come off if I hang in there.

Hang in there Ellie! I am almost 72 years old and need to lose at least 30 lbs. I have some health issues also but intend to work around them. Isn't it strange how the men can lose pounds so much faster than us women?

Exercise is my downfall. My feet don't enjoy walking but I have found I can manage about one mile on a treadmill. Maybe I can convince myself to do this three times a week, it will help some. I am hesitant to walk our neighborhood in case my body breaks down and I can't get myself home again. This getting old is the pits. :)

Have been using MND for months but just tapping into the community and am so glad to see this group. Was beginning to think that I was the only senior citizen out there and feel our concerns are different than the younger groups. I will be 74 next month and am in generally good health with the exception of Type 2 diabetes which I developed while on chemo for breast cancer several years ago. I have been diet-controlled but started having Hgb A1C's of 7.1 and realized it was time to do something if I didn't want a premature death or stroke. I found the book, The Insulin Resistance Diet, and started on that plan the middle of July. I have found the plan very easy and one that I can live with forever since I never feel deprived and there is really nothing I can't eat though I try to make good choices. Have been thrilled with my progress so far but have really slowed down recently, hitting plateaus every few pounds lost. Am still adhering to the eating plan but have slowed way down in the exercise arena which is probably the culprit. My feet don't care for walking and I can sympathize with Munchy's concerns but have an idea which might make that weekly goal attainable. I find treadmills boring but when I belonged to the gym, I downloaded a good story from Audible.com onto my iPod, turned it on and the time just flew by. No longer can afford the gym since I retired so am using my Wii at home which is a Godsend - when I use it that is! :) Still have 22 pounds to go to reach my goal of 125.

I see no one has been on this thread for awhile. Is anyone still reading and posting? I just got the book "The Ultimate Volumizer" and it sounds workable.

I'm reading at least twice a day, most days. I also would like to see more involvement. I get a lot of motivation from sharing gains (and losses) in my progress.

I too have diabetic neuropathy (feet hurt all the time).I always feel as though I can't exercise because of that, but when I actually do exercise, I discover that while my feet do hurt, they don't really hurt any more than they do when I am just sitting with my feet up reading.

I can't absorb things I hear - I have to see it in print. I've had good luck with the Kindle reader app on my iPad, if the treadmill has a book rack. I can easily swipe the screen to turn the page. I just adjust the type-size up two notches to account for head movement while on the treadmill.

I'm MND-blogging about my experiences getting used to exercise after being sedentary for 30-40 years.

Hoping to lose finally.
