Good afternoon, fellow Over-50s, and welcome to the first full week of January.
Here in central Canada it's cold, it has been snowing, and I can't quite remember where the sidewalk is -- haven't seen it lately. This is definitely not a great time of the year to be trying to get active, but I am, by George, making the effort. Today, after work, I have a date with an elliptical trainer! It's not much of a conversationalist, but it manages to get my heart racing.
So who's up for another delightful week of a little healthy eating, a bit of exercise, and keeping our eyes on the prize?

To those who live in bitter environments, whether extreme cold or tropical heat, don't forget the other little things you can do to increase your activity. For example, do you live in a two-story house? Go up and down the stairs several times. Better yet, do it carrying some weight. Working on a computer all day? Set it up to allow you to work standing up for several hours a day (easiest with a laptop or tablet). While you're at it, move around a bit (toe raises, glute flexes, etc.). Skip rope if you have the space (and the knees). Put on some music and dance around the room. You don't need a gym or a sidewalk to be active. Exercise is cumulative, so doing several "ordinary" things everyday helps too. And it's better than doing nothing at all!
