Ok - so I am over weight & out of shape :(. So is my 12 yo daughter. My daughter has to battle appetite issues caused by her medication & changing hormones as she enters puberty. So, working together we are getting up early together to help start our days healthy. Trying to be a role model & motivator for her IS my motivation. We are starting with small goals, but my larger goal is to be down to a presentable weight & shape for Key West in March !

WendyGr8 that sounds like a wonderful plan! I support you and your daughter and wish you the best! I'm right there with you! I have two young boys and am making a conscious effort to give them healthier food choices too.
As for a plan, I have started to input my food entries (the good and the bad) and will start with that. I'm hoping it will keep me aware of what is going into my body. My biggest struggle is with sugar cravings. I have a major sweet tooth!
I am in general good health, and exercising regularly. My main goal is to lose the holiday weight, and then maintain it. Not over eating the sweet, sugary foods is my other goal because I tend to crave it, and then over eat them until I feel sick. I'm thankful for this site for the support and tools offered.
WendyGr8, Key West in March sounds exciting! :)

Thanks Chamroonster for the encouragement & best wishes to you in your goals of creating a healthy life-style for your family! I have a sweet tooth too. Do you find it easier to resist, if you permit a small portion each day? I do that for my daughter - we plan some treat each day, but either do a super small portion or a semi- healthy treat like a nonfat, low sugar vanilla ice cream with fresh peaches. No matter what it is seems even more of a treat cuz we took the time to plan it & anticipate it & enjoy a mini break together.

Hi Wendy & Chamroonster - great that you have specifics in mind. Sweet tooth - yes, me too. Be sure to check out the Low Calorie Snack thread that is current right now - lots of great ideas there.

I was thrilled to step on the scale and discover that the numbers had gone down! I have felt so defeated in the past. I expect to fail. I am working at kicking that attitude. I know it will be a slow and steady process but -I'm losing!

I've learned that it's important to input our "bad" foods too. Otherwise our brains trick us into them being harmless .. You girls are doing amazing - so glad that you can do those things with your daughters. You are great role models

Welcome victorjane ! My DD & I rewarded our efforts with a little shopping today. Skinny jeans for her (in a smaller size than at Christmas!) & new sports bras for me (also in a smaller size ;) & shirts to workout in for us both - yay!

Isn't it fun to *have* to buy new clothes as your body trims down? And feeling more energetic and healthy?
Best,
Kathy
