Keto diet and keto strips Topic

Just started the keto diet. The high albeit natural fat aspects scares me a little ~ but I am counting the calories too ~ was doing paleo and just taking it stricter.

Ordered keto strips ~ was wondering how long it took to hit ketosis and what time of day you tested. How long does it take for a carb to knock you off balance ?

I am a runner of half marathons and just started CrossFit for the second time at a friendly box. I am basically 15o trying to hit 130. Thanks for any input.

Test morning because as the day progresses water dilutes. If I remember right took me 6 days to go in the dark range

I agree with Angelahayek, test in the morning. However remember that ketostix test for excess ketones in your pee so if it's only a light result after a few days of being dark, don't worry because as long as your carbs are low and you aren't eating too much protein, you will be in ketosis.

It took me about a week the first time I went on keto, I had the brain fog and all that for a few days and it sucked, but don't give up! It will pass if you keep at it and you will feel great after. Some people take shorter or longer so be patient.

I am doing keto for the second time and it only took two days before I knew I was in ketosis, I didn't need the ketostix because I recognised the taste in my mouth and I feel extra energetic.

I also found that consuming coconut oil (virgin coldpressed) ups my healthy fats for the day and helps out with the initial ketosis

Hey all. I'm also new to keto. I think I'm still in the midst of keto flu. Very very bad GI problems. Side note I was a vegetarian for 30 years turned pescatarian 4 years ago & GF 4 years ago. Help, my BM are yucky (TMI). When will this pass??

Hello Lainiedoula- It sounds like your body is really adjusting to your new eating plan. At this point I would say take it slow and reduce your activity during this period. It often takes time for our bodies to adjust to eating differently, and the keto diet is VERY different from the way you shared you were eating. Have you considered doing a gradual elimination? Such as the first week cutting out any concentrated carbs such as pizza, pasta, bread, rice, any desserts, soda or juice. The second week try to cut your carbs back by 10g a day and increase your fats slowly as opposed to changing your diet overnight. As a registered Dietitian I encourage people to listen to their body. And one diet certainly does not fit all. Simply because your friends are doing a particular diet or you heard good things about it, finding the right approach for you requires time and patience and paying attention to how you feel and blood values such as BP, lipid panel, HgA1C and the scale. It may be that your body requires a modified keto for optimum health? The only one who will know that is you! That’s my 2 cents. All the best, Joanna (Dietician)
