Hello. I just subscribed to MyNetDiary about 2 hours ago and I think I am going to LOVE IT.
I was dx'ed w/ Type 2 several years ago. OMG, the light switch was turned on for me. A1C was 7.3, but after changing my eatting habit and exercising daily, it went down to 6.3. My dr was so happy as well as I. I had also lost 35 pounds.
THEN IT HAPPENED. I gradually started eatting what I wanted to eat again and slicked off on my workouts. I GAINED all 35 lbs back and my A1C is back up. So, I have to get very serious now again and forever.
I am back at the gym, but needed a way to track what I was eating. Tracking what I ate seem to work for me in the past because once I realized the nutriential contents some of the very good 'stuff' wasn't worth all the carbs, etc.
I don't want to look at this as being a diet, I was to eat right to live longer as well. I want to be health. The weight lost is the benefit.
So hopefully, others w/ Type2 can help me on this journey...or to say, we can help each other.
Looking forward to this walk, but know i need some help and others to talk to.

How is it going? I don't have Type 2 but am pre-diabetic with insulin resistance.

Good luck to you. I was diagnosed with Type II two years ago and have it under control with Metformin and diet, but I have a lot of weight to lose to get to my theoretical ideal. The Metformin should help me lose weight by partially blocking carbohydrate absorption.
Sweets are my weakness, particularly honey in my tea, but my glucose levels remain good, as do my A1Cs.
I am a lifelong ovo-lacto vegetarian and I believe this helps -- fifth generation of vegetarians in the family in fact.
But let us know if we can help somehow. I've lost and gained back that much before myself. I think careful record-keeping with this app will help -- I'm just waiting for offline use as my home wi-fi network is iffy and I use this on my iPod Touch normally.

Do any of you track your blood sugar readings in netdiary? I was wondering if that helps - keeping all your information in one place.
Plus, I need some motivation!!!! I'm not very disciplined about logging what I eat or taking my blood sugar readings.
Thanks!

I don't think it really matters where you keep your log(s), as long as you are consistent and regular. As far as motivation goes, just remember that if you don't track them, you won't know what is going on with your body and when you are getting into trouble.

Staylo,
Are you still using MyNetDiary and looking for others w/ Type 2 Diabetes to talk to? I am newly diagnosed (just 2 months ago) but it was my wake up call to make a change to my eating and exercise habits that are a lifelong change and not just a diet. I know that I have a lot more to worry about than just regaining whatever weight I lose if I don't make it a lifestyle change. I have been absolutely sedentary for 2.5 years hardly ever leaving the house because I wasn't working and I suffer from Fibromyalgia and depression so adding exercise was a huge change. The first day I could only do 7 minutes and I was done; I have now gotten up to 45 minutes. I have also decided that it doesn't matter how much I exercise as long as I do it every day. I am lucky enough, as strange as this is going to sound, to have a good friend who has also been diagnosed w/ Type II diabetes to go through this with. I wish she didn't have diabetes just as I wish I didn't have it, but having her as my motivated exercise buddy to go through all this with and learn all the ins and outs of blood sugar control has made it so much easier to keep going even when I don't want to. I wish you good luck and hope that you have made progress and am here if you still want someone to talk to.

That's my concern - keeping up the diet change and exercise over the long run. Sometimes it's pretty hard to get up out of the chair and put on the jogging shoes.

New to the group: I was diagnosed with type 2 several years ago and I am using the mynetdiary iPhone app to track carbs, blood sugar, insulin, and weight. Just started on insulin recently and am still working with pharmacist to get the dose correct.
