Hi, I am 53, 5'4' tall and weigh 235.4. I started on this weight loss journey in Feb. 2011. I use MyNetdiary to keep track of my calories, water in take and exercise. I also joined the gym. From Nov. 2011, I lost from 265 down to 223 lbs. I was not able to get to the gym in Nov and Dec. and gained back some of the weight. I also didn't count calories during the holidays. I am back on track now. I am new to this message board and hope that it will give me the support I need to continue on my weight loss journey. I hope to lose down to 120 in about a year and a half from now so I have a lot of work to do. I need your support to make it and I hope that I can help someone else at the same time.

Sorry I meant to say I started the weight loss journey in Feb. 2012 not 2011.

Good morning everyone. Here is my inspiring moment for the week: putting on my favourite trousers for the first time in -- is it really 18 months? I started my current campaign as a New Year resolution (haven't we all done that, at least once?) and, for a wonder, have stuck with it. On Day 24, I have lost 10 pounds and I'm wearing my nice blue trousers again.

I've been using the app for a year but am just now trying to lose pounds. Weigh 140 and need to be 118-125. Gained weight with meds after chemo and feel like a slug. I'm only 5'2" so a shorty here! Live in Texas.

I am 54 and I started working out with a trainer 2 days a week a month ago. I go two days on my own, and I swim on Sundays. I have lost about 8 lbs so far, but this has been a life-long battle for me. I have been up and down in my weight most of my life. I am an emotional eater. I feel like my weight has been like a desease. I want SO badly to beat this thing once and for all. I cant do anything about getting old, but I dont want to be a FAT old lady! Is anyone out there with me?!!!!! It would be nice to have some encouragement and accountability to others like myself just trying to get healthy.

I would suggest asking your doctor, a nutritionist, or a health club what your target calories should be, then excercise at least 3 days a week. If you log EVERYTHING in this app, it really does work! Good luck to you!

Hi, Ckhair!
I'm the same age and height as you, so I can relate to the challenges you're facing as we "mature". I started using MND in January 2012, but didn't get serious about it until Thanksgiving of last year. I'm setting small monthly goals for myself and so far it's working! I also work out six days a week in our home gym. One difference I noticed between your plan and mine is that I have my activity level set to "sedentary" (I work at a computer all day), where your activity level is set to "very active". Even though I work out almost every day, I intentially set my activity level low so that it will reduce the number of calories in my daily food plan. I then try to keep my calories within my food plan, and anything I burn through exercise is just icing on the cake. This also allows me to have a little "splurge" from time to time, since I've built up a calorie deficit.
Everyone has to find their own "best way" to use MND, but I think it's good to compare tips.
Good luck to you in your quest for health!! I'd be happy to hear from you to compare notes from time to time!!

I used to have m setting at sedentary, but as my trainer explained I NEED calories to burn. If my body doesn't get enough or eat often enough, my body will store what I have taken in as fat! I only eat 1300 calories a day, that's more than what I used to eat, and less than soe people. But I'm losing! Go figure! The more muscle you gain, the more you need to eat,because it takes calories to support th muscle. For every 10 lb I lose, I need to increase my calories by 50! Also, if I don't get enough calories, my body will start attacking the muscle mass I have instead of fat!
I am pretty much sitting for my job too, I drive all over my state everyday. I have learned exercises to counter all th sitting and I do things to alleviate my neck an shoulder pain from all the driving! I feel I have really been learning a lit this time. I've been doing things wrong my whole life. That's why I'm in this position now! It's really hard to eat 1300 calories, I'm getting my buns kicked in the gym, but things are finally making sense and clicking for me this time! It's a lot of hard work, but I'm determined!
What is MND? How does that work?
I'm not sure I would want a deficit of calories, I might be tempted to use them up or day and I know how hard I have to work to burn them off! I don't trust myself yet!

MND = MyNetDiary :)
Makes sense about adding the extra calories to make up for the exercise. I may have to make some adjustments as I really get into my strength training....was only doing cardio for the first 8 weeks or so until we bought some weight equipment about a month ago. Thanks for the feedback, and good luck!! :)
