Low Impact Exercise Topic

Walking is considered low impact so you could walk outdoors or on a treadmill. However, running would be high impact. Other cardio that is low impact: bicycling, stationery bicyling, swimming, walking in water (great workout!), elliptical machine (gyms have them), cross country skiing (and the machine), rowing (and the machine).

Can you ask your doctor for specific activities you are not allowed to do? For instance, a referral to a physical therapist?

Ok thanks for all the options.

My doctor said a pt wouldn't "stick". And I don't have the money for it anyways.

I'm not really sure what he said I had, but basically my joints are looser than most people's and doing high impact activities makes my bones grind together.

Okay, then be sure to include notes on how your body is feeling along with your food and exercise log. There is a Notes row in apps or in Details tab in web.

Oh, and about walking. Try to move continuously or walk "briskly." 3 MPH would do it (20 min to walk a mile) - and if you have long legs, you might even get up to 4 MPH (15 min to walk a mile).

I found out he said joint hyper mobility

What would logging how my body feels tell me?

Ok thanks!

Logging how you felt physically just helps you find patterns. So some exercises cause pain that day or the next? You don't have to log your notes, but it can help. You decide.

Have you heard of PIYO? Is is a no impact workout (Pilates/ yoga). It is great for strength and cardio. I highly recommend it!!

@hearwegoagain I do Zumba, Step and Cycle classes.. I was thinking of Piloxing... Have u tried that??

I was looking for Low impact and strengthening exercises. A friend recommended Callanetics. It has helped build muscle mass, giving me flexibility. You go a far as you can wherever your body is at. Good stretching....

I would also recommend the ZOVA app. I've been using it and loving it. All exercises are short in duration. You can do as many or as few as you'd like.

Hi All-
I have to second Herewegoagain's suggestion of pilates and yoga. It is low impact and a very good workout.
I do pilates on a regular basis and think it is great for strength building, flexibility and injury prevention. It works those tiny, sometimes neglected yet very important muscles. Here is some info on it:
