More Protein Less Fat Topic

How can I get more protein in my diet without getting all the fat? Even the Atkins Protein shakes have 9 grams of fat in them. I like grilled chicken - but only for so long. I switched from eggs to egg whites, and I limit my red meat to one serving per day, but I'm always under my protein goals and over my fat goals.
Bonus question - Is one gram of trans fat really that bad? I cook with ground been 2-3 times a week.

In personal opinion, and I’m not a professional, I try to limit my red meat to one serving per week or less. So far, I’m often over the limit of my protein budget even though I’m in the puréed stage post operation. I use 0% fat greek yogourt with 18g protein per portion, fortified milk 2% fat that milk has 18g of protein per portion. If needed I will use milk protein isolate or non-fat milk powder to boost the protein content of my smoothies. I also use pasteurized egg whites, with the fortified milk and the greek yogurt in my smoothies so they have lots of protein even if the portion I can eat is very small. Finally, they suggest us to eat 6 times a day: 3 meals and 3 snacks. All of these meals or snacks has to have protein.

Small amounts of trans fats occur naturally in meats and dairy. Yes, having 1 gram from natural sources is not an issue.

Hope this helps! Best, Joanna (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Hello,

CariB, have you tried eating vegetarian versions of meats? They are made from plants and so have a lower fat content but still contain protein and iron. They are nearly all of the time significantly healthier than normal meat and help me lose weight quicker without changing my diet.
