Permanent Health Change Topic

Last November I started my weight loss journey. I’m down 36 lbs. I haven’t been in a rush because my main goal has been a sustainable change in my health/lifestyle. I figure that if it’s not a way I can eat for the rest of my life any weight lost will just return when I stop eating that way. So I haven’t cut out any food groups, sugar, fats etc because that’s not sustainable for me. I eat more protein and vegetables and I focus on fullness. If I feel hungry I will eat. I’ve found that the feeling of deprivation leads to weight gain in the long run. I’ve also found that if I eat energy dense foods ( simple carbs, sugar, fat) without variety i need to eat more to fill my stomach and I get hungry more frequently but the same thing goes for if I only eat veggies and fruit. They don’t keep me full so I really focus of eating a balance of everything and it works for me. I could eat like this for the rest of my life. Anyone else in this for the long haul?

It makes sense, in my own journey it is definitely similar of what I find myself queuing into with the exception of fast food that is especially deep fried or even deep fried at home I wouldn’t ever do. I think deep fried food for myself is something with no value. I simply do not need it. And do not crave it. This is something I have to watch out for because those around me still have tenancy to eat these types of foods. If I eat take out, I strive for it to be a healthier option.

I steer clear of cooking with oils for the most part aside from a bit of olive oil or avocado oil, very minimal. And only on rare occasion.

I agree on what you say about deprivation but again I don’t really have an issue mostly because I naturally crave the healthier options in most everything.

Where I think I lack is really understanding protein and the importance or lack of. So this is where I’m at trying to make sense of things with all of the information that is out I find it difficult and contradictory of each other. I think it’s something perhaps I have to test out myself deeper but my end goal is no animal protein. I did a solid year on none but somewhere I fell short and that hit me pretty hard in my heart because I truly want to not eat meat, just for personal reasons. Non judgmental, just personal to myself.

I have pretty much accepted that I have to dive further into research though.

I’m not a big sugar eater and I rarely drink anything that even has added sugar. I just don’t like it.

My goal is to continue on this journey. And learn along the way.

Congratulations on your weigh loss. Great job!

Hi U1196348597,

I thought you might find this article useful for getting adequate protein without animal foods. It has a lot of examples of protein sources, recommended goals, and links for recipes and other resources.
