If you’re trying to lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit but that does not mean eating 500 calories a day or fasting, fasting is to be done after consulting a medical professional on how to do it correctly and should be done in a controlled manner.

To gain weight what you need to do is be in a calorie surplus while exercising consistently so that you are gaining as much muscle as possible as bulking increases the amount of fat you gain because of you eating more

In both scenarios you need to consistently exercise 30m a day whether that be swimming running or other activities while you need 150m of cardio a week for a healthy amount.
