Hi I am also new to this and have never tried anything like this before. For most of my adult life except the last 3 years I was 55kg but am now and have been sitting around 70kg and my goal is to get back to 55-60 kg to feel happy and confident about my body. I am trying not to cut out food or drinks that i normally have on a daily basis so that if I dont keep up with the plan I wont put on more weight then i was before i started but rather cut out the junk foods and make sure I eat regularly throughout the day(I have never been a brekie person). I am also trying to add exercise into my daily routine so will see how I go over the next week. Day 1 today and only had 1000 calories and that included my daily southern and coke :-) Any tips or ideas I am open to as there are so many magazine, news, ect on what works and what doesnt work out there. Good luck to all those that are on this journey as well.

Hi Kibrcama - welcome to MyNetDiary. I think it is wise to start with cutting out your junk foods first. See how that goes. You might also enjoy reading the blog - we post twice a week and cover a variety of subjects related to weight control.

You might find my post for newbies helpful in terms of being new to tracking: http://www.mynetdiary.com/new-to-calories-tracking-tips.html

And this article on calories is also helpful: http://www.mynetdiary.com/customizing-calorie-goals.html

Hi, im new to netdiary, this may be a silly question but what does (contributed) mean when I put in for example....weetabix. I love the site it's a great help in starting off weight loss & exercise. I struggle sometimes finding the foods as it is all listed in American brands (im in Oz) but Im guessing its all mostly the same I just need to get used to the different terminology. Thanks for a great site.

Hi folks - I will be posting replies on Thursday!

Hi Feebie65 - if you see "user contributed" in the food name, it means that another member entered it, not Support. It is more likely to contain errors, but at the same time, you can see more items in your search.

You can hide viewing user contributed items by going into your Account or settings area and choosing to hide them. I did that simply to increase accuracy of the items brought up.

MyNetdiary has tons of Support-entered foods since they have the PhotoFoods Service. If you have an Phone app (and some Droid phones)- use the barcode scan function to find foods. If there is no food in the databae, you can use the built-in PhotoFoods Service to request Support enter the nutrition label & barcode. That will help build the database for you and everyone.

Is there a recipe calorie calculator on this app? I cook a lot and want to be accurate in entering the nutritional value for the foods I cook.

Hoping you might be able to answer a question for me. I've found that MyNetDiary calculates my weight maintenance calories (and thus my target calories for weight loss) significantly different than other apps/services. To be more specific, MyNetDiary says I need 2700-2800 calories for maintenance, while other say 2200-2300. I can't seem to figure out why there's a 500 calorie difference in calculations (and yes, I've set activity level to sedentary)

Recipe calculator - you can create recipes by entering the ingredients in an empty meal and then clicking on the recipe link (see right above meal area on web or tap recipe icon in app). Be sure to enter the total yield of the recipe (e.g. 8 slices, 4 fillets, etc). The system will calculate the weight for you based upon the recipe ingredients. For tips on recipes, read my blog post: http://www.mynetdiary.com/tips-for-entering-your-recipes-into-mynetdiary-like-a.html

You can view and modify recipe ingredients if you enter the recipe using iPhone Pro app for MyNetDiary. If you are using any other platform, you cannot view or modify ingredients once saved as a recipe so be sure to name your recipe in a way that reminds you what it is. ALso, it it helpful to include your 3-character initials in the recipe name so you can find it easily. Also, I typically name my Cooking Light recipes "CL xyz" so I can find those easily as well.

Note: the best way to share recipes with others is to allow sharing in Information Sharing settings in your Community Profile. When a person allows view/sharing of custom foods or recipes, you can click on their recipe/food of interest and it will be saved to your custom foods area (and will include "from xyz" in the name so that you know where it came from).
