Restricting calories but still gaining weight? Topic

I've been exceeding my deficit for a bit now, but I gained weight.
I'm trying to lose around 20 pounds, but I gained 6 in the past week.
Does anyone know why this could be?

You might have an underlying health condition or you may just be on a weight plateau (when your body starts storing fat because you won’t eat enough)

Hello Discordjaymay-
Sorry to hear the scale has stopped reflecting your hard work. I realize this can be frustrating and cause you to doubt the process. Here are a few tips that have helped others in your same situation:
1. Strive to eat some protein and veggies at each meal.
2. Weigh your portions, on a food scale to make sure you are not inadvertently eating more than you realize.
3. Check your settings on the app. Make sure you have not turned on the feature, "add exercise to calorie budget." Make sure to continue to exercise, though by turning off this feature you will not be tempted to eat back the calories you burned during exercise.

If the scale does not budge, make an appointment with your doctor for further testing.

Too much sodium had me bloated and retaining water, which put on the pounds. I was working out and dieting but still not losing. Being honest on this app helped me see that my sodium was way out of whack! I dropped my sodium to 1500mg per day (which was difficult giving up my hot sauces and salad dressings) As a result, I’ve lost 9 pounds in 21 days!!! I learned from this app that condiments, processed foods, can foods, restaurant prepared foods, all have an absorbent amounts of sodium. I never put salt on anything…so I had no idea that sodium was the issue. Hope this helps you, I know how demoralizing it can feel working out and restricting food only to be bloated and add more weight. This app is the best thing that ever happened to my nutrition and my waistline. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Glad to see that you figured it out. We will have stalls, but there is always something we can do to kick start our weight loss again. One thing for me was not putting so much pressure on myself as cortisol levels rise with stress and make things harder. A lot of times it is just changing it so your body isn't getting use to what you are doing.
