Servings in Custom Recipe Topic

Hi, I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if some of my recipes are just calorie bombs. I'll enter in a recipe, like for a big batch of homemade granola for example.

1.25 cups of coconut oil (supposedly 2400 calories)
.5 cup maple syrup (420 cals)
2 T almond extract (72 calls)
918 g rolled oats (3672 calories)
229 sliced almonds (1298 cals)
1 cup raw pumpkin seeds (680 cals)

I enter all that in and it says it is 8542 cals per serving. I know that is not right, because this amount is for two huge trays of granola, not just 1 serving. So I guesstimate that I am going to eat 1/20th of the recipe each time, which is roughly a half a cup of granola, and enter in .05 as my serving. But that is still 427 calories, which seems crazy high for 1/2 cup of granola.

Am I doing this wrong?

Well I would suggest you weigh up each ingredient in grams, that’s way more accurate than guesstimating a cup size for each.

So weigh up everything, gram for gram (you could take an average too if you wanna be really precise, would take a bit of math work but if it’s a staple in your diet and you’re concerned enough it’s worth it.)

Then when you take a typical serving out, weigh it and from your average calories per g of food you’ll know pretty much exactly how much you’re eating :)

But honestly
coconut oil (fat)
Almonds (fat)
Maple syrup (high sugar/carbs)
Oats ( high carbs)

It probably isn’t far off 400 calories in a serving because all of those foods are high calorie foods.
Healthy foods but high calorie non the less!

I’m not surprised at all. Granola is ridiculously high in calories

Hi there U1192913535-
It sounds like you are on the right track! Generally speaking, granola is high in fat and calories. This brief YouTube video walks you through the steps to create a recipe from scratch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-ZOZ7BldiQ
