Thinly slice 2 small tomatoes (if you can locate heirloom tomatoes, even better).
Thinly slice fresh basil by rolling up each leaf and then slice into thin ribbons.
Place bread in toaster oven. While bread is toasting, cut avocado in half. Save 1/2 of the avocado for later.
Once bread is toasted, evenly divide the avocado half between both pieces of toast using the back of a fork to smash the avocado.
Layer the sliced tomatoes on top of the avocado, sprinkle with fresh basil and drizzle lightly with balsamic vinegar.
Add a pinch of coarse salt and fresh ground pepper on top.
Serve immediately.
