Starting Life Anew! Topic

I am a twenty something female who is taking back her life! Today was the first day of my new life! I'm not perfect in my start as I am trying to figure out what works for me and what is healthy an what is not. Also, I am extremely out of shape so starting to exercise is going to be hard, but I'm looking forward to introducing exercise into my life and making it a permanent aspect of my new and improve life!! I have done fad diets and pills and blah blah blah, this time is going to be different! I'm not going to go on a crazy diet; I am going to teach myself the proper ways to eat and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Anyone have any tips or feedback, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm a newcomer so any advice would be nice! Thanks!

Congratulations on making the commitment to your health. I started my journey at 225 two years ago and am currently at 162, only 17 lbs away from healthy body weight. I did not use any gimmicks, just healthy diet and exercise.

Start with small changes to your diet. I started with just trying to eat more vegetables and less processed carbs. You can gradually worry about the finer points of your diet later. Secondly, you need to find an exercise program that has at least some workouts you enjoy. For me it was running, which is a fantastic workout if you can get yourself into it. I have also enjoyed doing Zumba.

I like to make out posters to put up on the wall that list my weight loss goals and my workouts for each week so I can check then off as I go. You can also use a wall calendar. I find that having a constant reminder of what my goals are helpful to have on the wall.

I suggest a great support system. My family holds me accountable for my goals ( I do too of course, but it's nice to have people to talk to that love you and want the best for you.) Also, don't beat yourself up! Don't be afraid to fail every once in a while. If you slip up, hop back on the wagon.. Don't let shame keep you from completing your goals. Cut out the foods that are brining you down. For me, those were grain and starch carbs as well as sugars. You might be surprised to find that you actually like working out if you have the energy to do it! Good luck!! Message me any time if you need a pick me up or motivation!!
